i'm opening an account with pinnacle as i've been told their odds are better than betfair more than traditional bookies so a better chance of arbing with them. take bigger amounts without shutting you down to

Pinny are the rolls royce of bookies.  All you have to do is scan stuff and send it to them which is the same with any foreign bookie.  If you don't want to do that then don't use them.

Yeah that was it clydebank seemed a hassle to me at the time but as you say, standard with foreign books. . . .

If only they did horses - but for sports Pinny are peerless. No bonuses or rubbish like that - as they say they don't close you down, allow large bets, and have the lowest vig in the business - that's a bonus for life.
Why no one else has tried copying (their obviously successful) business model is a mystery to me.

Surely the bet365 business model is better than Pinnacle?

Pinnacle are probably the best bookie in the world when it comes to pricing up markets (I don't count exchanges), but that isn't even close to being the most important thing a bookmaker should be good at. Marketing and IT come first.

Marketing is very basic with pinny, for obvious reasons as they keep costs low.
On the IT front, pinnacle's website is in the category of 'barely good enough'.

Compare to bet365:
Very high standard marketing campaigns
Very smooth website and lots of video footage, in play betting, lots of markets, much better than main (traditional bookie) UK / EU rivals.

Betfair:
Decent marketing spend, but some poor campaigns in the past. Better now, but still not as good as bet365 I'd say.
On the IT front, it's hard to compare Betfair with others, as the platform is probably more complex.

Betfair also cater to price sensitive punters, but in addition to this, they give people the chance to trade, and create complex positions. Great USP's, but Betfair don't seem to be happy with their 'high volume/low margin' business model. To my amazement it has even been referred to as 'flawed'.

It's part of Pinnacle's business model being low cost. Pinnacle cater to a niche market of bettors who care about price as opposed to a website loaded with bells and whistles. And yes that IS a niche market strangely enough!

Since pinnacle reflects crowd opinion as an exchange, they are the same I guess. Why I am considering  this is because I’ve heard both pinnacle and betfair are tough to beat. Also some said Betfair is appropriate for live and Pinnacle for pre-off betting. However, it seems traders (bots) on here react immediately on Pinnacle’s price movements, not always though. Anyway, who knows where is higher liquidity of markets?  Can’t find it anywhere. Maybe annual profits or something like that. I’ve asked support and they do not comment neither odds  nor amounts (that’s how they make things clearer to the customers). Say pinnacle has bigger cash flow then I will suppose it’s they who have the true odds.

I have been a big fan of Pinnacle for years and use them a lot. It is an interesting point about why nobody has tried copying them because I often find myself in a position of pondering either the exchanges or them, but very rarely do i bother with other bookies anymore. There must be thousands of people like me who do that.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest if their site looks basic, I am only interested in the price available and the amount you are allowed at that quoted price (always high with them).

Betfair...well its the only trading option so from that perspective, you can't compare directly but if you are a position taker, Pinnacle is better usually (espeically when you consider PC issues) and even Smarkets too with their low comm (2%) should get a mention.

Dimes is another goodie but that really depends on your preferred sport.

Just seen Pinny are now on oddschecker. First step to commercialisation?

they used to be on a few years ago, must have decided it was worthwhile coming back. They've also finally redirected the site when accessed from a mobile device to a more stripped down version which is very useful.

they say on their website they offer a minimum bet size on each event, what is the minimum size offered.  I dont have an account, i cant seem to see the limits without logging in.  I am not a big player.

"Even though our maximum bet limits are among the highest online, we also cater for the smaller bettors, offering minimum stake amounts of just £1 (or the equivalent in your local currency). You might be a sports betting novice, but no matter how small your stake, you should still bet with the best odds available to maximise your return."
