My mate and I have an account with can bet (in his name) which we go halves on. We stopped using it about a year ago and so about 6 months later we attempted to withdraw money from it about 2k. They e-mailed back saying they couldn't due to age verification and would need some proof of age to do so. He sent this thru and as far as we were aware money had been returned. He just went into his money brokers account and money not there so logged into can bet and seen they had taken the whole lost last month as a dormant account fee. Surely this is not fair especially as he'd made attempts to get the money back and have e-mail proof of this from them. They also state in rules that they start taking a £2 monthly from the account but they just took whole lot with no warning. Any advice please.

1.6 Dormant Accounts
1.6.1     It is recorded that the provisions of this Clause 1.6 only apply if a Players account at the Sportsbook constitutes a Dormant Account.

1.6.2     An Account Management fee of £2.00 / €3.00 / $5.00 per month will be debited from any account that is dormant.

1.6.3     Any credit balance standing to a Dormant Players credit in his or her Cash balance in his or her Dormant Account, less any Account Management fees charged, will be refunded to the Player providing that the player claims his or her Cash Balance from the Sportsbook within six (6) months of the Players account becoming a Dormant Account. If the Cash Balance in a Dormant Account remains unclaimed for a period of six (6) months, any sums contained therein shall be forfeited to the Sportsbook.

They say they're "committed to providing world-class Customer Service, and to dealing with player queries and disputes in a prompt, efficient, and fair manner" so you might still get some joy from them. If you don't, escalate your complaint to IBAS although what they've done, unfair as it is, seems to be within their rules.

Still no response to his e-mail from them. He's desperate to call them but wants to keep everything in writing in event he needs to take it further. They never took the £2 per month merely took the whole lot in one go, no e-mail nothing. Totally disgraceful behaviour. There was no betting activity in the period but he did make efforts to withdraw the cash. The funds even left the account when he did the withdrawal. He was asked for proof of age and sent it thru. Not really sure what more he could have done. Tbh I think rule is ridiculous but its particularly unfair if you attempt to get money out and have e-mail from them to prove this and they still enforce it. Does this mean you effectively have to keep betting until all the money has gone as they will constantly prevent you withdrawing it?

Far worse than this happens.

I had my entire balance confiscated by a firm called betsson, on the grounds that they couldn't verify my identitiy.

I sent them copies verified by a sollicitor, only to be told that the case had been closed.

I've been left with the impression malta is a dodgy jurisdiction. At least I know that whatever else the bookies in the UK get away with, they wouldn't literally steal money in this way.

But canbet is IBAS affiliated and offices are in UK. Seems from internet there are a lot of these cases. I didn't realise but he has actually called them a few times but they don't answer their phones - great customer service. Say they are 24/7 and don't repsond to e-mails, phone calls or faxes. What do you need to do send a recorded delivery.
