Has to be classic by a country mile. Where is the 'my markets' tab on beta? It's too fussy and discourages market-making. Plus the only thing I play--the horses--aren't even on it yet.

prefer classic by a distance  - can't really get used to Beta and i have tried to give it benefit of the doubt  , BF should continue with both imo - there are those who may like the new site .

Prefer BF not to keep shoving Beta down our throat all the time though Sad

The new betfair is coming.  All you can do is send them feedback.  So far, several points I have made have been incorporated (though some were obvious and were probably supported by others).

All I can do is encourage you to send feedback while it is in beta since once they roll over, changes will be harder to implement.

Classic. Beta is terrible, a massive backwards step and just something else to add to Betfairs 'how to drive more customers away' list.

The person responsible for Beta must secretly have a large shareholding in the purple site. I cannot think of any other reasonable explanation.
Report Ghetto Joe June 16, 2012 3:45 PM BST
This beta is fkin useless , some markets don't show up in it and takes forever to load.

God knows how many floating punters drop by and disappear never to come back. Everyday I have to opt out of this **** because I don't store cookies and the sites too badly coded to remember my preferences once I eventually manage to log in.

It's like Betfair and Microsoft are managed by the same mindset. The internet is full of reviewers saying Windows 8 is fine for the desktop but complete dogs eggs for the Desktop, and leaks saying people WITIHN microsoft are saying they know this, but the "vision" is to push for tablet market, so everyone who is getting a downgrade pushed on them will just have to suffer it. (Basically MS are pushing a tablet friendly interface to get people used to it cross platform and companies to make products for it, but for desktop users it's like tying an arm behind your back, and drives them mad).

Not exactly "the customer is always right". More like "you'll like what we tell you to like, or you're wrong".
Report Emden June 16, 2012 8:50 PM BST
I have seen this sort of scenario before. A company spends a colossal sum on a new beta website. The directive comes from very high up in the food chain.

To back down now, scrapping the beta version, would mean loss of face and reputation, plus resignations, at the very top for those who started this beta initiative.

Chances are the beta will be railroaded through regardless of the poor feedback. No turning back. Classic phased out.

When classic goes, a lot of people will be looking for alternatives.

With a 'real money' site; clean, clear and simple is the way to go - which is exactly what classic offers.

At the very least we should be given the option to opt out PERMANENTLY in our personal settings.
Report River Me June 16, 2012 9:07 PM BST

Beta is so bad I actually think I wouldnt bet on this site if that was the only option.
Report Just Checking June 16, 2012 10:36 PM BST
Sorry just re-read this, I meant to say "The internet is full of reviewers saying Windows 8 is fine for the TABLET but complete dogs eggs for the Desktop"

Doh! I remember as I typed that thinking "should I say desktop or something else like "normal PC"" and outfoxed myself :)

Oh and Emden, you're spot on. There's a point where things become internal politics.

It's not so much that they should stagnate, but that change for change's sake is not a good thing, and they should be focused on what the user wants in front of them to achieve their goals with the minimum of effort, obviously with the business side (some internal advertising etc) respected, but not what looks good in a colourful powerpoint presentation to people with MBA's and **** all common sense, and hell mend the user.
Report lmlac June 17, 2012 12:23 PM BST
Classic of course is better for the punter, but I suppose they have to do something with all this PC revenue.  Eventually we'll be stuck with Beta as the new classic because all the inconvenient negative feedback will be ignored.

At the moment it's a ruddy pain having to keep renaming my hosts file on a daily basis so I can complete the temporary opt-out process.
Report Baby Jesus June 17, 2012 6:02 PM BST
I've had to amend my bookmarks to http://sports.betfair.com/?optout=true so it's doesn't load the beta crap when I come here. Things like the bookings index don't even show in the beta and if you can manage to navigate to them they don't do the6 odds increments correctly Cry

The worst ever up(down)grade to the Betfair interface since it's inception. What on earth are these people thinking of when designing this cr@p?
Report SHAPESHIFTER June 21, 2012 10:37 AM BST
It's funny, Mrs Shapeshifter works at a law firm that is handling several of the new tech companies emerging in London and Europe.

She has introduced me to several of these companies and their platforms are incredible and innovative.  I'm learning every day on how to make an interface user friendly.

I am working right now with my Canadian based brother on a sports-related site that will 'revolutionize' the way punters research sports.

I'm really proud on how people I have tested it with, both here and Canada, can sit down and within minutes feel comfortable with it and, within thirty minutes, are sailing through the site using its potential.

The engineering has been difficult but the platform presentation was really, really easy.

I can't figure out betfair's thinking.  They would have a team that would have more tools and abilities than me at my MDF desk and my brother in his flat in Vancouver.

And Muqbil, I hope you are well and happy in your world.

Muqbil, I remain a 'survivor' in the world of the exchanges.  But other ventures make my grey matter move more positively than the world of pixels that BF offers.

Right now working on producing some products that will help punters in their quest for positive results.  Not as challenging as we think since the information is there.  Just a matter of offering the depth required to research a play.

He said it used to be so straightforward and now it’s just a mess

I have just given it a fair try. The scrolling is insane. Someone must have been on crack when they thought that was an improvement. In markets with many runners I now can't see the runners at the bottom of the list and my bets at the same time. And I can't believe they think listing matched bets in a different order than the runner list is an improvement? And I don't have order by date ticked, which won't tick anyway. I really defies belief they could come up with something so unusable.
Report U.A. June 29, 2012 8:09 PM BST
I must admit Beta is not for me either. Classic is much more user friendly. However I have noticed one advantage for some people that Beta presents. When new markets are created from scratch, that appear on Beta version first before they appear on Classic.

I can't see why anyone would refer the new site, I soon changed back to classic.
Don’t Betfair understand that people come on here to bet, not pee about trying to understand what everything is for and find their way around.

Why don’t they just leave it alone?
They can reduce the commission if they've got money to throw away.

Sometimes red figs AND green figs don't show at all but reappear when you switch to a different market and then switch back again.

The BBC recently changed their homepage to a beta version which was a massive step in the wrong direction. they opened a similar thread for comments which were even more resoundingly against the changes than those on here. After a few months with thousands of negative comments guess what..... the beta version went live a few months ago with absolutely no regard for the consensus. I wonder what's going to happen on here.

The difference here though is that the BBC's revenues did not depend on beta being rejected.
