Is anybody else waiting for the boat race to be settled ?

I had a bet on the time too and still waiting to find out what will happen to it.  Personally I think the time bets should be voided.

According to the boat race's site at http://theboatrace.org/news-article/race-report-the-2012-xchanging-boat-race there appears to have been "no time taken".

It was clear very early into the race that the time would be more than 17 minutes, so if you are lucky the market will be voided.

I would have thought no record time would stand though.

Obviously no record time so should have been paid out by now.
Probably the longest time so maybe this is a new record.....ha ha.

How Shirley Knott thought it was clear the race would be more than 17 minutes is baffling?? Unless she knew that idiot. 20 seconds up on the record at Hammersmith Bridge and the reserve race being timed at 16.41 on a slower tide...idiot!

Anyway could someone from Betfair tell me how this has been settled and from where the "official" line on the time has come from. www.boatrace.org still has NTT  (No time taken)

Betfair rules do not appear to cover this eventuality so surely the official result ( boatrace.org ) should prevail.
Given the very rare occurence and the relatvely small amount of matched wagers involved ( circa £5k ) Betfair should have made a decision to the detriment of no-one on this occasion.

WHAT RESULT DID BETFAIR PAYOUT ON? AND FROM WHERE DID THEY GET THE WINNING TIME?

Betfair has paid out on 17 mins - 17 mins 59 secs.They was no official winning time for this race and never will be,not sure what rules Betfair had on this market.Unofficial time i guess Oxford roughly stopped rowing at 10 mins 30 secs and with the rolling start Cambridge roughly did the rest of the race in roughly 6 min 32 secs so roughly the winning time was roughly 7 mins 2 secs.Without the prcik in the water the winning time would have been roughly under 17 mins.

I was taking timings and projecting forward and concluded that there was no way it would be a sub 17 minute race, I note however that our view differs.  I also noted that there was no back money offered up on sub 17 minutes in play.

thankfully I resisted the urge to hoover up the 19mins+ money as the clock ticked up towards it.

noticed some people getting on at 1.1 and lower though. for them this will be a painful result. kudos to the layer(s) for knowing the rules or at least second guessing how betfair would play it.

Cant see how Betfair didnt void these time markets.and what did Betfairs Boat Race winning time settler make Cambridges exact winning time?...... as my missus says seconds count.

definitely agree it should have been voided (despite being up, er, 69p on the market)

presumably they added the two portions of the race together. but then, when does the first one end exactly? when the umpire shouts stop? or when the boats come to an actual halt (whatever that is in a river.)

whichever of those two you go with, the race is effectively then being rowed over a different course, as the boats don't start from the same place.

in the absence of specific detailed rules for the market (at least that I could find) they should just have voided.

Me too.  I didn't have the foresight to check the rules of such an eventuality and resisted betting on something I was not 100% sure about.

It would be fascinating to know what rationale betfair used to settle the market on a notional timing.  Does anybody understand this and why the market was not simply voided?
