Centrebet have been taken over by Sporting Bet. I've received an email today from Centrebet saying that any outstanding bets (i.e. long term bets) have been cancelled and refunded. This is outrageous. They cannot simply void bets like this, can they? They haven't gone bankrupt, they've been taken over. In every situation like this that I've known, the bookie taken over also takes on outstanding bets.

Fortunately I only have a couple of relatively small bets outstanding on a football and tennis market, although both are in winning positions, but that's not the point. I'm fuming about their actions.

Can anyone confirm if they've had an outstanding bet, but which has almost certainly lost, also refunded? Can Centrebet simply void bets like this?

Please note that your Centrebet account will be closed in 14 days. Any pending bets outstanding on your account will be refunded.

Looks like a new low for the bookmakers.

Shocked

So a firm that was going to be bankrupted by,say , Man United winning the league, could just welch on the bets by selling up to someone else Confused

Always thought in any takeover you take on the debts of the company you purchase, principle is the same surely .

I'd say this is more likely to do with you being in a jurisdiction they no longer operate in due to legal and regulatory issues, i.e. Norway, Holland, Greece etc.
