Is it...........as simple as dividing the BSP by the amount of places for the race???
No, as the win and place markets are two separate markets. ....or should it be, as simple as dividing the BSP by the amount of places for the race??? No. |

The answer is that there is no mathematical solution for calculating a correct place odds based on the win odds.
You have to use an opinion just like you have to in the win market. |

The Harville Formula is the mathematical probability of working out place odds from win odds. However, you then have to skew the place odds further after using Harville to get the 'true' odds - this is the difficult bit.

There is a method for working out the place odds from the win odds. How do you think the layers price up a race? I've been laying on the place markets for nine years.

Each race has a divisor which gives a 100% book and each horse has a divisor based on trainer, running style, fitness etc. The place markets are now very sophisticated on here and very accurate.

I won a lot of money (to me) in 2003 laying horses
for a place, but my qualifiers, using my own place betting calculator, slowly dried up from about 5 picks per meeting to about 2 from 4 meetings as the market got more sophisticated, and I eventually nearly died of boredom. |
