Belgian government introduced new online gambling regulations. I just received an email from an other bookie saying "they have taken the desicion to suspend accepting bets from customers located in Belgium".

So will the Betfair website become unavailable in Belgium soon ?
Will Belgian customers account be closed ?

Getting a little nervous in here... Confused

Nasty what`s happening here in Europe and I mean online gambling regulation not the economy..
France is gone & I got saved here in Germany by the skin of my d1ck thanks to one tiny German state standing up to all the others.
I believe other countries including Spain are considering new legislation, sorry to hear it may affect you in belgium too.

perhaps others have more information...(?)

i wonder what % of BFs customers are from Belgium  or France for that matter.

i always assume most are from the UK -does anyone know ?
Report RAPS • March 7, 2012 2:04 PM GMT
% of customers in France or Belgium no idea.
% of internet traffic per country can easily be seen @ alexa.com.

As I recall France was about 3% of traffic, no idea about Belgium and as comparison UK is usually around the 30% mark.

UK a little over 50% of both active customers and revenue:

Coachbuster during the world cup they had that league table competition thing of betting, which showed nationalities, and it was quite an eye opener looking at all the different nationalities who were betting on that competition. Special case perhaps, but still.

It's certainly not good throwing up all these barriers though :(

Missed that table JC

The question i would like answered i guess is -

Is the recession affecting volumes on here amongst UK customers ?  Do folk gamble more in hard times or during    more stable periods ?

Betfair helpdesk told me they are suing the Belgium to clarify this situation.
It's going to take months with the Belgian courts, and if the result is not cool enough, the European Court of Justice could be the next step (years of procedure).

So whatever the result will be, Betfair should still be available in Belgium for the coming years.

@ RAPS:

Which state stand up? Just curious. I live in Bayern and use Betfair daily and I'm terrified with the thought that we could be banned from using Betfair.

undeline,

Schleswig Holstein blocked it in an 11th hour rearguard action after being tapped up by a Norwegian Lotto Firm that wanted an entry to the German market and was prepared to pay.
Given their massive debts it was a way out for my new best friends in the govt. in Schleswig Holstein, an offer they felt they couldn`t refuse.
A little like the way Tasmania stuck it up the rest of Australia when BF were trying to get in there they defied 98% of Germany and refused to pass the bill.

We were very lucky...

Well the belgeins are only known really for making good chocolate and Americans for
jumping in too world affairs with poor timing so when forest gump said "lifes like a
box of chocolates" it is far better to underline the end statement "because you never no which one your going to get" which is the complete driving force behind the desire to Gamble which is where both Belgian and America have failed there own people!
Report bf_fananatic • March 9, 2012 1:04 PM GMT
No offence meant too Forest Gump incendaentally.

If america had been 3 years quicker at throwing Hitlers lager in the danube like they where at throwing british tea in the boston harbour then millions of peoples lives would of been saved and europe would now be in a lot better shape then it is now!

bffanatic, for someone who seems to like writing so much, your spelling is appalling but as most of it's not worth reading anyway, it doesn't really matter.
Report longbridge • March 9, 2012 3:13 PM GMT
I can't see any spelling errors in bff's posts - they all read:

"The contents of this post have been hidden for this blocked user: bf_fananatic. "

you can block anyone on here because you are free to decide what you want to do , you cant say the same for all peoples or animals in all of the world around basic rights.
