My yahoo email account must have been hacked by some sort of spam mailer....
it sent spam to all the addresses in address ( luckily there were only 20 odd addresses)
Found out because acouple of the addresses must have been defunct, as some were people i worked with years ago and lost touch with, the mails that were sent to the defunct addresses were bounced back to me, which was when i noticed....
Went into "sent" folder, and they were sent at a time when i had gone to bed and laptop not being used at all.
I have now deleted all contacts in address book, and changed yahoo email password.
Use AVG free edition, and ran full scan, but it didnt pick anything up.
Anything else i should do ? and is this "infection" likely to impact anything else, online banking etc ? I,m worried my laptop is now a zombie spam emailing machine !!
yes either the security is getting worse or the hackers are getting better. You really need quite a strong password these days, numbers, letters, punctuation, not a dictionary word.
Was your old password simple to guess?

thought my previous password was ok, 9 letters, but no numbers..
There is a " security stamp" you can use with yahoo, will set that up.
I accessed yahoo via website only.

I don't think the problem is you. It's Yahoo! Please see this comment from another guy who had his Yahoo email hacked. http://www.blindfiveyearold.com/yahoo-email-hacked

It's an email worm that's infected you at some point...probably from someone who you know who is also infected...when you open their mail to you then you also become infected and a mass mail goes out from you to all your contacts...then the process repeats itself...can be a pain in the arse.
