That Tony Calvin geezer was as shady as they come and would be blackballed from the second hand car business. |

Mark Davies "leaving" coincided with the beginning of the end imo. I have never read anything from them or seen a single PR/spokesperson since that strikes me as knowledgeable or trustworthy. That TC interview on ATR sums it up - totally unprofessional - sounded more shifty than a really shifty thing and OUTWARD display of contempt for the CUSTOMER.
Hazel - you forgot the introduction of retrospective charges. What you have done in the past (unknowingly) will now affect your charges for the rest of your life. That seems fair enough, the sort of decision that instills confidence and trust! |

Don't give them a zero or your post will be removed as mine was

i suspect they are far more trustworthy than they are trusted.
|

By:
9.5, for me.
|
|
By:
ARe you talking about trustworthy as in honesty or in competence ?.
If the former, then to me there can be no middle ground. If you have the slightest doubts as to their honesty then you should immediately pack your bags and depart the BF site totally. If you mean the latter ( as I think and hope you probably do) then one would probably fairly have to say that their grading on this would be getting lower , rather than higher, as time goes by. |

Betfair are a lot more trustworthy than some of the sharks who use their site.
|
|
By:
Most of the sharks teeth are supplied by betfair.

they should be rogued for baiting me into betting with a promo for a golf pack (umbrella) and refusing to send the prize!

The lost data issue, the cross matching appearing unannounced, the Scouseberry scandal, the bug where bets stayed on the screen after being removed, keeping accounts open to aid investigations and allowing people to keep the money and things like that have all gone on over the years.
Compared to those I think they have been great over the technical fault that occurred last week. At last we have a CEO willing to come out and make an upfront statement. I would give them ten out of ten now. Hopefully the CEO will takeover the PR on important issues. |

Most of the unsavoury happenings on betfair are sanctioned by them. You've lost the plot over the last year or so frog. Do you work for them now or something?
|
|
By:
I'd give them a 1
|
|
By:
Of course I dont feck. I am not even a big player on here at the moment. What I am saying is the idea that Betfair has suddenly become less trustworthy is rubbish. There have always been odd things going on. Inrunning betting has always had alot of question marks over it. At least this time they havent stonewalled the issue.
|
|
By:
frog, it's the fact that you used to call it the way it was that has thrown me here. Over the last year or so you seem to have become a bit of an apologist for them. Considering they voided so many bets struck fairly it's hard to see how anyone could give a 10 to a mob with gutter morals imported from the city and who run the site along shell and pea lines.
|
|
By:
You just cannot trust them to follow up with actions that they say they will give.
The latest in a very long line is the full technical explanation they were going to give about the 600m glitch. What happened to that? |
|
By:
David Yu would never have issued the personal, thoughtful statement put forward by Steven Morana. That in itself is a big step in the right direction.
They still bungled it badly, both in PR and some really smelly decision-making, but at least it looks like Steven Morana is trying. |

ballabriggs, it's a good thing that there top man comes out with a statement after such a serious incident, but the question here in relation to this threads topic should be :
Do we think he is telling the truth and nothing but the truth ? We have no way of knowing if it is the truth or just some corparate BS said in order to cover up something. I have no idea if what he says is actually what happened, but history is full of corparate management telling lies to cover their own or the companies ar$es. |

By:
The statements RBS were giving their shareholders prior to the bail out were very "honest". I see there's a 10 hour upgrade planned for next Tuesday. A "major upgrade" is on the way.

I still think that if I have a winning bet, especially one at a standout price, I'm more likely to get paid out at bf than w/ a conventional book.
|
|
By:
Suppose your standout pre-off price was 1/100 about a horse that traded 8/1 throughout the day askari?
|
|
By:
Yes, they need a palp rule. They shd also revise the reduction factors, in some way that treats their decimal odds analogously with odds written the conventional way.
Imv the founders asked themselves, 'how can we offer a better service to the punter?' There is a faction in the current senior management that resents any well-thought out punter wins. The mentality is 'why should people win when we've provided the platform?' If bf went back to the founders' concept, I wd be much better-disposed to them than to their rivals. |

The upgrade Tuesday might be something to do with this bit from their annual report:
First, the investment we have been making in our platform enables us to launch a new, faster version of our website during FY12 with a completely new look and feel and greatly improved navigation. Second, we will extend the number of markets we offer to customers. We are developing an integrated Exchange and sportsbook product that will allow us to provide more in-play markets as well as giving customers guaranteed execution in less liquid markets. We believe this liquid Exchange and sportsbook combination will be unique to Betfair and will allow us to capture a greater share of the market. http://corporate.betfair.com/investor-relations.aspx |
|
By:
or it might be something to do with what they say it is (my bold):
Please be aware that as part of Betfair’s on-going data-centre migration programme, there is essential planned site maintenance and upgrade work scheduled for Tuesday 10th January 2012 starting at 00:01 (GMT). |

I wouldn't get your hopes up about a massive site upgrade. It's probably just making the new beta site go live:
http://beta.betfair.com/ (Only lists football markets, but you can edit the URL to view other sports. Can't see much change or speed improvements at the moment) |
