If so, then I think Feck might want a word or two in your little ears. Btw if there are any, is it perhaps because papa p!ssed away the inheritance by gambling recklessly and badly on the geegees ? A lesson for all ?
FAFH, Why would I want a word in someone's ear over something they had little control over? I'm sure there must be people who attended Eton who went on to become decent human beings.

Not really - it is possible to get into any of those on merit. Obviously it helps if daddy is loaded but it is still perfectly possible if he is not.
Meritocracy has never been in fashion in this country, so we put up with mediocrity instead.

MM cidentally this was not ever meant to be an Eton bashing thread. I suppose it is just an example of what Lori referred to on another post. I apparently have no, or at least no good, humour bones in me . I suppose I should just stick to being the boring, humourless f@rt that I clearly am. Maybe ( and this will really potentially p!ss Lori off at least) I could start reading up on the matter ? You know try to develop my poor humour skills, just like my gambling ones, with a bit of self help. Good idea perhaps ? You're one of the morey, witty posters on here. Where should I start ? Beano perhaps ? Or the Consevative party political manifesto ?

unfortunatley a lot of you guys see the confidence that a lot us Public Scoolers have as arrogance........
it may be because you havnt that much confidence yourselves and feel threatened and inadequate....and im not talking about the loud brash chavvy type "confidence" that seems all the rage in the modern world.....im talking about the quiet..self-assured deep confidence...
..being well educated...and not just academically goes a long way toward this quiet confidence of which i speak.

Now I realize it doesn't apply to all who attend Eton, but does inherited wealth play a large role in being deeply self assured and confident. After all if it doesn't matter whether you are good at anything as required by most to earn a better than average living, or even have the basic need to earn a living at all, make life somewhat easier to handle ? In other words, take away their family wealth, would so many Etonians be all that comfortable with their lot in life and thus within themselves ?

Btw you are showing a fine streak of this deep self assurance and confidence yourself, in posting up your recent comments. Very brave indeed on this forum inhabited by many rip your throat out type characters. Also a forum which positively swarms with greed and envy. All the very best with any and all future posts in response ( that is if you haven't largely turned them off - they are quite a fickle lot ).

but does inherited wealth play a large role in being deeply self assured and confident..
i expect it does in that perhaps the financial element of fear of failure is removed.....and so with this as you say...the vagaries of life...(which certainly contribute a great deal to people being less than generous to others but also themselves) are cushioned somewhat..at least from the financial viewpoint.
...but by simply measuring ones abilities in financial terms is what denigrates the soul of so many in the world.....and anyway...many still make a decent living whether they are any good in their particular field or not...(banking profession springs to mind but best not go there)!!!!!!!

Is that why so many Public Schoolers seem apparently to go into public life. They feel the need, or even the responsibilty, to give something back ?. To repay the world for their good fortune of being born wealthy ? If so, them many would perhaps say, I wish they would stop. In more cases than not, they seem to do more irreparable harm than good. A case in point at the moment perhaps ?

Incidentally do you gamble on BF to earn a living or just for fun ? If the former, do you think going to Eton helped you at all ? Or is it a case that a gambler is born not made ?

perhaps the more financially secure you are ...the more your thoughts turn outward to the wider comminity and the world......
..rather than the narrower but in practical terms essential and understandable...more narrow and pragnatic view of the daily grind of ensuring a living for yourself and those close to you.
as for the current....i think both the purportedly working class representatives of Labour for the last 14 years and the current Conservatives...who i guess are the main targets of this thread...have both questions to answer...
.i think in the main both tribes have the best of intentions to wider soceity wahtever their background...but as you say...humans...well educated or not...have the habit of making perfectly solvable problems even worse.!!!

i am looking to find a return on each investment...
on betfair you do not need to gamble......i wont elaborate further because i think Fecks name was mentioned earlier in this thread and if you put "Eton" together with "trader" i suspect i will have a visit from "Gatehouse"

Hey froggy, you got the argument you were after when you started up this thread out of boredom. I like the way you started the thread saying "Btw if there are any, is it perhaps because papa p!ssed away the inheritance by gambling recklessly and badly on the geegees ?"
Later on you said
"Very brave indeed on this forum inhabited by many rip your throat out type characters. Also a forum which positively swarms with greed and envy."
And then there is that brilliant comment in the middle saying "cidentally this was not ever meant to be an Eton bashing thread."
I'm sorry but i just don't believe you when you say that it was never meant to be an Eton bashing thread. Either you are lying or incredibly stupid. For what it's worth i personally think it's the lying option.
By the way you should bring in some connection to bankers if you really want the argument you are after.

To explain why I brought up the nexus between going to Eton and professional gambling, I think that you need a basic animal hunger to succeed at professional gambling. The most successful gambler currently in the world ( Billy Walters you might agree ) says after all that he has been totally broke more often than he cares to remember. Does Eton prepare you for that sort of thing ? Or one could have started off in life with a lot and lost it due to circumstances out of one's control. Does Eton give you good grounding to cope with that sort of unfortunate eventuality ? I guess what I'm saying is whether you can be born on easy street and really become a good professional gambler ?

UA Believe it or not I was not looking for any type of argument at all. A little friendly debate perhaps but that's all. You do seem to read of all sorts of nasty agendas into my quite harmless posts. Is it perhaps a case of it takes one to know one ? ( or think he knows one in my case ). Are you one of the envious ones if not one of the greedy ones ?

Envious, not really, pointless emotion. Greedy, most people want more money, does that make them greedy. I wouldn't say i'm too greedy but maybe others who know me would be a better judge. If you want to know if i went to Eton then you can just ask, i'll answer you no problems. Not sure what the "takes one to know one" question is referring to. If you clarify i can answer it if you want.
Let me ask you a question then monsieur froggy. Given that you are of a fairly independently wealthy nature because of your invention (good for you by the way), how would you answer the question that you pose concerning animal hunger to succeed at gambling.

Btw I do accept and plead unconditionally guilty to one of UA's charges. I do indeed start up threads quite often out of total boredom. A bad habit not only in my forum life, but my real one as well. I have a lot of trouble taking anything too seriously. And equally I do expect to be taken too seriously in return. So to UA and any others of his ilk, just calm down a bit if and when you read my ( all too numerous ? ) posts. At best, just skim them if you bother to read them at all. Don't whatever you do, don't get your blood presuure up, or your knickers in all a twist. Just not worth it at all. I'm a light weight in the world of important opinions. I know it and accept it. I suggest you do the same.

" And equally I do NOT expect to be taken seriously in return " Bit of a material typo I would say ? Our posts crossed UA it would appear. You're right in assuming that I probabbly do not have the required level of animal hunger to become a successful pro punter. But I have never claimed either actually to be one to be an aspiring one, have I ?

Hey Froggy, i have no beef with you, i must admit i was a little bored myself. I knew if i threw this up you would respond pretty quickly, especially if I put a question mark over your intelligence. Cheap shot i know.
I don't take any threads too seriously really, life's too short. I suppose sometimes i wish you would just ask the questions you want to ask rather than going round the houses. Why didn't you just start with your post at the top of page 2?
I always thought you were a successful punter, in that you are in profit.
Oh and also what is the deal for you disappearing for about 3 months or so and then coming back. Is this trend likely to continue. Just curious.

Good to know you have no personal beef with me UA. It's mutual. As you say life is far too short. To answer some of your questions in the order you put them. Quite often I have no set plan or even idea of where my threads might likely go . I post them more often than not in a manner designed to let them go where they naturally want to. In this respect I have neither any overt nor any hidden agendas. Yes I am a successful punter, but I don't and never will need ( hopefully) to do it for a living wage. Far too much like hard work for the likes of me. As to my disappearance. No particular reason. Just felt like giving it ( gbf posting that is ) a break for a while. Felt it was starting to dominate my life a bit. I'm a bit like that. All or nothing. Also being the kind and generous soul that I am, I thought all my readers ( fans and enemies) most certainly needed a break from my almost daily platitudes. I'm sure you will agree with this last point.
