When I first started out I did because I earnestly expected to learn interesting ideas.
Now I just vainly hope to.
PS I also post now because I have found that I have this innate talent to p!ss off a very large majority, which entertains me no end.

1. to pass time between two bets. i pass all my day here but don't bet all the time, the forum is a fun way to chill out between two bets
2. to find practical informations on betfair (technical problmes, rules...) and on the sport i follow (schedule, etc...)
3. to improve my english, i'm not english native speaking

I never expected to find here any valuable information on the sport itself or any good tips, as if i had a great bet in head, the last thing i would do would be to come here to say it to everybody, and i think the others are like me.
I've been happily surprised though to find sometimes some very good insight on the tennis forum, but i don't use it for my bets.

I read some sections of this forum (though very rarely the football corner of it) coz every now and then you stumble on that bit of knowledge that is worth Hoovering Up...............and its here on the General Betting page where most of it is found I find!

The Cricket threads are worthwhile too with some sage advice if you quickly move your eyes away from the few bull$hitters there!

How to win friends and influence people ?
No seriously, I mistakenly thought that when I first came on here it would be full of talking heads, discussing probability theories and betting algorithms, in abstract only of course. Nobody wants to give full working details away understandably.
But how stupid was I to think that ?.
The people who bet in the manner I would like to and dream of, are not the types who generally frequent forums where the average IQ might just be pushing my shoe size.
The few exceptions on here, and there are some highly intelligent posters on here, have understandably decided to take a very dumbed down approach to what they post on here.
More's the pity but that's the way it is.
Gambling theory is a very small intellectual niche in the world of serious mathematicians, and the BF forum is not the place to get real exposure to it.
But I have over time found other avenues to explore on all this, and so the forum has become, for me, just pure light entertainment.
As another poster just said, if you're on here anyway doing a reasonable amount of betting, you might as well use the forum to while away the down times when your bets have been placed and you are eagerly awaiting results.

Yeah to learn and get information primarily. I've also met people through the forum that I am now working with in some way or another.

I do spend way more time on here than would be optimal though.

I think most people have spent more time on here than they ought to at one time or another.

I now hardly open any threads unless they really catch my interest. There is too much posting that is well meant, but essentially erroneous and I feel better for not reading it.

My first post was referring to that, a good leg puller is one thing but admitting so is a bit dimly, nvm.

Anyone that works on Betfair or  online in general will tell you that it's a lonely activity given it's a solo occupation so like my fellow tennis poster abolo - I use the forum to A) kill time B)  humour myself C) debate D) take part in comps for added interest and E) give/pick up occasional info.

It's true there are some highly intellectual posters whose posts are worth reading if you read between the lines when they are trying to help some, at best they give vague insight/direction to improve ones profit potential, some on the football forum get upset when they don't understand that we're all rivals and you should be grateful for any help.

In essence it's a most forums here are juvenile, as most fall into the 98% of losing accounts bracket which means there constantly on a downer.

Leaving next week thankfully, won't be missed/won't miss anyone.

Fair play FAFH .

I'm not sure if successful betting and IQ are linked ...it may be, who knows ?

Light hearted entertainment it is ...and should be imo ..gambling should be for fun people  Grin

FAFH- sometimes when you watch a game of football you may  see a majestic piece of skill and genius, and you think - How the hell did he think of that -that's an astonishing piece of skill ,thinking etc  ?

Yet ,in real life he may have a job spelling his own name and tying his shoelaces .

Well, that's how betting is in a nutshell- you can be doing this for a living, coasting along and yet  be pretty damned useless at everything else .

Yeah it would be very amusing to know who is the most successful person on here who has utterly failed in everything else he has tried in his life.
Pretty hard to elicit such info though, truthfully that is.
Personally of course I wouldn't qualify as I've been amazingly successful at absolutely everything I've turned my hand to.
I'm just waiting for a call from the G20 leaders to step in and give them a hand to solve their current economic problems.
Till thenn, I'll just keep reading and posting on the forum.
Keeps my bullsh!t skills honed if nothing else.

Firstly the whole post is correct - the bold part is true in Wayne Rooney's case, dyslexic I believe and was put on course by SAF when he signed at United. imo you don't have to be an academic to be succesful here or in business - if you possess enough common sense and a willingness to learn you can.

Richard Branson is a prime example.

Yep, you can be intelligent in different ways - academia is a sort of safety net really - think of all them with high flying degrees etc and then think to yourself -   How many of them would make it on their own ,without the back up and insurance of a wage cheque ?

Not that many have  'think on your feet'  quick decision making /speed of thought /logic and intelligence .

As someone rightly pointed out, all that going to university does for most is to polish up their bullshine meter.
That is they just become a little better at recognizing when someone is talking total crap.

I've missed you there since I returned on here a reasonable while ago.

Seems I was perhaps mistaken ?.

Lads, this looks like the start of one of those petty squabbles that take place on these boards. Best for you both not to continue it.

I spent this evening analysing an event from 1985. Got the winner too. Done as a learning experience of course & I got more from that than anyone could hope to get from a 1000 posts on here.

Not mistaken, just pulling you up on your complaint that you get simple answers to your simple questions.

I've found that I get the most out of threads where I put the most in.

Yep Dave you're right.
The spats between me and Lori are now history and should remain that way.
He's probably right about some of the very dumb questions I have posed at vaarious times on here.
But what the heck, you've gotta start somewhere.
And anyway I was more observing what my experiences on here have been, not complaining about them.

I think the issue of asking questions is best dealt with by yourself. Asking searching questions and then finding the answers.
