Hi everyone. I mistakenly withdrew money onto an old card and the money has now gone missing. Betfair insist I need to get a letter from my bank but my bank simply refuse saying that they do not do that. Has anyone else had a similar problem and was it resolved?
I'm beginning to get the feeling that neither my bank nor Betfair are going to bend and I won't get my money.
I have withdrawn money to an old card before now and it has come through fine. I suspect that the money will come through to your account (if it is a debit card) in a very few days, and that you should not be worrying yet. The bank will almost certainly put the money into your account or if not eventually send it back to Betfair and they will recredit it to your account. I have had money disappear in the banking system before (nothing to do with Betfair) but it always turns up in the end. The banks have plenty of legal means to plunder their clients and do not need to resort to theft.

yes, I had exactly this happen with Natwest. a £500 withdrawal from BF showed up as a withdrawal on BF, and a payment to BF on my bank statement.
basically, it was the bank's fault not BF's, and the bank stonewalled till I went through their official complaints procedure. at that point they sorted it out and admitted it was their mistake.
but if I hadn't spotted, I'd have been out a grand.

actually, to flesh that out, it's a bit different, because in my case the key thing was the phantom £500 payment to betfair.
I'd check your bank statement to make sure that hasn't happened to you.
I don't know why the old card caused a problem, as it had actually expired quite a while back, and that had never caused a problem before.

Deffo get your money, has happened to me, it turns up either in your account evenutally as your account details are the same, just the card number is different or they send it back to betfair, it will not go missing guaranteed, just keep onto your bank and ask them where it is or has been sent to if it is over a week or so, they will know.

Call the bank, tell them that you are going to refer it to the Ombudsman, listen to their attitude change from obstinate to let's see what we can do, wait until the incompetent call agent has spoken to his or her manager and voila, they will find your money without a problem.

you won't "deffo get your money" without doing anything. you might do, but you might have the same experience as me and have it disappear into the ether until you pursue it.

Well Srichaphan or Ancic? wins the prize. The minute I mentioned the ombudsman they tracked the money, issued the letter and even offered me £50 compensation. Thanks everyone for your help.

Same thing happened to me not so long ago, was a real nightmare but in the end I got my money back. After ringing my bank and speaking to them on the phone and with no progress I decided to go into my local branch and explain my situation to them. The bank ended up locating my money in a 'holding account' or something. I was then told to wait for up to ten days for them to put the money back into my current account but in the end I had a phone call from Betfair saying they had received the money from my bank and had put it back into my betting account.
