Question for those who are familiar with Market makers.

How does actually company's like www.bettingpromotion.se make money here @betfair ?

I am just little bit confused how that profit is being made and would appreciate if somebody could explain ;)

Because the markets are almost always over round on here to some degree.

Having to pay zero commission makes it pretty easy. They can use big money to push prices around almost as they please.

And after all their advantages they make a paltry margin. Must be flying by the seat of their pants. Personally I'd rather deal with lower volumes at a higher margin. Which is what I do. But not here, generally, cos Betfair want everything. They won't be satisfied till they take it all or p1ss everyone off so much they leave and the company collapse.
The company need to become private again, so they don't have shareholders to please. And they need to be run as an exchange, rather than a 'be-all-things-to-all-men-mish-mash-betting-site'.
Rant over.

DrWhom,

Do you manage to get decent amounts matched at the other place?

Contrarian, nice to see you're still going.

Well, my original algos worked very well here but then, like all things, they didn't, largely because the markets I was playing in dropped considerably in terms of liquidity and they became too volatile. That, combined with the much hated PC meant I had to re-think my strategies.

Once I'd done that, I found I could move over to Betquack without a problem because a couple of the strats were pre in-play and the liquidity was good. And I was only paying 1.5% comm.

I've since added a couple of other strats which incorporate high-street books and they're going OK too, though its difficult to keep accounts open and not be limited. Which is ridiculous really cos I'm not a big bettor by any standards.

As we all know, unless you're Get on Massive, its a tough business and keeping your head above water is a constant jive but I'm hangin on in there. Just..

But forget Betquack for in-running horse racing. Its hopeless.

Interesting. Despite getting robbed every week with the PC, I'm stuck here because my strategies depend on high levels of liquidity (in football markets).

Hopefully get a chance to talk at the Xmas drinks.

My margins are similar to those of Betting Promotion, but I don't have a the huge operating expenses, so I have some money left over after paying expenses... for the time beign at least!
