Basically I came into coral's and wore a hoody, just for fun..never do it
The two women refused to let me place a bet unless I took off the hoody. Was more than happy to do so, but I asked for them to show me something official or tell me why . They said it was their policy and it was the same as being under age.
My problem was that they both admitted to knowing me and having seen and placed bets for me before. They made out this was a rule and there was nothing they could do..Some guy in the shop said it was on their website. The whole time i was being poite and logical.
I went to other corals to ask their opinion. They both said the reason they ask people to take off thei hoodies was to justify their age.If they showed this and they knew them, they didn't really care if they kept the hoody on or not.
I might be making a big thing out of this, but I even said ' If you tell me if you have this in official writing, I will leave the shop.' They refused to answer and they then called the police!
The hoody does not insinuate danger..ESPECIALLY if they fully admit to knowing the person, placing his bets and only unsure of age wen it comes to a hood.
I just wanted it to be confirmed in writing.
It just proves these people are not trained in respones to legit questions and instead just call the police to settle the matter. Each shope has different standards i guess
Yeah but it was just the principle. The hoody does not insinuate danger..ESPECIALLY if they fully admit to knowing the person, placing his bets and only unsure of age wen it comes to a hood.I just wanted it to be confirmed in writing. It just proves th
You dont walk into a betting shop with a hoodie as the staff will sh1t themselves assuming you will pull out a gun and rob em. This applies to motorcycle helmets too.
Just be content that this is reason enough not to walk into shops with a hoodie.

Looking for a fight when there is no fight. You did it for the principle. Don't their principles count for anything ? I suggest you get your kicks some other way.

Sammy, was it really worth your while typing out that quite lengthy post just to make a rather ridiculous point? If the shop staff didn't like the look of you (and judging from your 'just to fun' comment, I can't believe you weren't trying to look vaguely threatening...) then they have the perfect right to refuse to serve you. Indeed, they don't really have to have a reason at all. Just as long as they're not obviously discriminating on grounds of race, gender etc. then they can tell you to get stuffed.
So yes, they are right!

I know what you mean Sammy, but the bottom line is they want to see customers faces on their cctv, they should be straight and say that. Did you ask them if people wearing a Burka are allowed to place bets?

hello dimwit. you talk of principles yet clearly don't 'get' the concept of 'rules'. a rule applies across the board, is applied without fear or favour. there's a rule about doing 70 on the motorway. if your stopped doing 80 you don't get let off because 'the road was clear' or you know the traffic cop : thats the meaning of 'without fear or favour'.(a law is a type of 'rule'). If Coral have a rule, stupid or otherwise, it has to be applied : WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOUR. geddit?

Some say rules are for the guidance of wise men and the strict adherence of fools.
ps. The 70mph motorway law is a good example of a bad law. We know this because any law that criminalises a large percentage of the population for no reason other than the law's sake is a bad law by definition. The majority of motorway users will break that bad law, hence why the government wants to raise the limit to 80mph and decriminalise the majority.

What kind of business sense does this make to have this policy ? every man/women that walks into a betting shop is a customer unless they asking to use the loo. Why would you turn away a customer/money because you didn't like his attire? it's not Harrods. I place all bets online but I may just walk into a Corals wearing a hoody to see what happens, I probably won't be arsed though tbh.

ffs betting shops are being robbed left right and centre and someone is asked to take his hood off, do you think its so they can hear the cashiers scream iyho?

I presumed he was talking about just wearing the hoody - and not actually having the hood part over his head, it he had his hood up then of course it's right to ask him to take it off, otherwise not.
oops think i might have misunderstood.I presumed he was talking about just wearing the hoody - and not actually having the hood part over his head, it he had his hood up then of course it's right to ask him to take it off, otherwise not.
My opinion, you're a trouble seeking plonker. Would you carry on like this in a bank? In a police station?
Put yourself in their shoes, a guy walks in that they have seen before, he's never worn a hoody, but today he is for some unknown reason other than he's trying to get a reaction. First thing is maybe he's a disgruntled punter who wants to rob or assualt staff and hide his face from CCTV.
Grow up and if asked to do something in someone's shop or house, do it or leave. It is their right, and the fact they called police shows they felt threatened.
So for kicks you caused anxiety and stress for battlers doing their job.
Highly unfair, unthinking, inconsiderate and childish.

"'Youths', wearing hoodies should be jailed. Grown men wearing them should be jailed for even longer. Grown men wearing them 'for fun'-throw away the key."

Ok to correct myself..It was wrong to say I wore a hoody for fun.I just had it on, didn't even think anything of it.Maybe naive on my part
But my problem lied in the fact that they both admitted to knowing me and seeing me place bets before. So on that basis, why does a hood make a difference. In the grand scheme of things, I would have just taken it off.But they both behaved like under trained mugs who had been told something and were unable to adapt to circumstances.
They called the police because that was their way of resolving the issue.I left to not allow the police to come and waste their time.
Still think it was uncalled for .I was not and am not in nature a confrontational person.I like to be rational and logical. If i had a bad cut on my head and needed the hood on , would it be fair to not accept a bet then?. Or if i wore a beanie, is that really so different to a hoody
The problem is society seems to label all people in a certain dress code in the same way, I think this is wrong and as they knew me as an individual and that bookies had ONE other punter in there, they could have just let me bet, which took all of one minute
All the constructive posts have been very interesting...It's just a debate, no need for stupidness

sammy without me ranting, let me explain. I have been the victim of a holdup many years ago. There is no way to explain the reality of it and the longterm effects. I could have got myself into terrible trouble, because after that I overreacted and to be honest, there was an incident where I could have killed someone. Luckily the situation diffused.
I'm not suggesting that either of these women have been victims in such an incident, but I'll bet they know someone very well who has.
They have a set rule and a set spiel because what you did is a security "trigger", no matter what they know of you. In fact the reason they didn't call the police to start with or set the alarm, was probably because they had seen you before. Seeing as you were challenging the rule, this seemed aggressive even though you might have been calmn.
You didn't have to take off the whole garment, just slip off the hood.
I can without a doubt tell you, that in a casino, in a police station, in a bank, you probably wouldn't have got the opportunity to leave. You would at least have been held for questioning.
Why not leave instantly and ring Coral's head office?
The bottom line is they saw you as a potential security threat and it all could have been solved by pulling just the hood off your head, which is why your behaviour was alarming to them.

Whinging about rights of wearing a hoody, surely theres more to worry about.
Your point about knowing you, considering many robberies are committed by locals doesnt stand up (bookie robberies generally done by stupid crack addicts).
If as someone mentioned earlier you walked in wearing a mankini i would label you as a ??!! extrovert? to be polite, so if you were wearing a hoody excuse me for labeling you as someone dodgy compared to somebody not wearing a hoody, its just me not being a imbecile.
Anyway, just reminded of a time, previously id been held up twice in a year, same shop four times in a year!! and a guy walked in wearing a cap and sunglasses late at night! he walked through the door didnt look left or right just headed straight for me at the counter,he reached into his coat pocket, my instinct and experience kicked in and before he had the chance to get to the counter i legged it through the office door to the back room, unfortunately the pretty cashier who i was keen to impress didnt have the same instinct and sat at her till oblivious to the potential threat. My noble nature insisted i return to my till to front out the consequences, when he pulled out a betting slip, with the pair of them looking at me like i was mental. Never really got a chance to impress the pretty cashier after that, all the pretty ones leave the job after a short while, only the hardened dragons remain in the job.
