Wouldn't surprise me if there's some truth to that. 5% commission is incompatible with competitive match odds on major football matches. All bookies taken together usually form a book quite close to 100%, maybe 101%?

5% on football is a disgrace. I used to think they never altered the market base rate on football because they couldn't give the traders an even better deal but the premium charge removed that obstacle. It's also disgraceful that not a sou of pc3 went towards lowering commission for 5%ers. The premium charge money isn't for use to attract new customers, it's to compensate betfair for the customers they're losing because they allow wholesale fraud.

Pinny always advertise how much better than Hills they are.

Try getting your hills accounts up in profit by a few grand and see what happens when your winning there money instead of other punters in the case of an exchange, different set of rules means you get to choose which part of the street you want to land on when they throw you out of hillsBlush

Check on the internet and google" punter banned for winning £1000 from bookmaker" happens all the time, at least betfair have a system that allows winning by charging customers relative to there fiscal impact to the eco-system, radical, controversial but non the less ambrosia for bettors

Any serious football punter who bets pre-match only (not looking to trade pre-match) and only plays on betfair is an idiot.

When you factor in commission [forget PC 1,2,3] if you shop around BF is never the best price except some rags in horses for which purple being linked to BF would be just as good if not better given the lower commish. People are price sensitive whatever BF may think about loyalty etc and the exodus is gathering momentum.

Agree with bf_f that bookies do and will close/restrict you but thats relatively easy to get around. Wish I could say BF is the only acc I need but its more like "BF is the only acc I might not need anymore if it continues like this".

I'm not too far from PC1 being at 23% approx so the decision will be made for me this year I presume.

I dont understand the figures

Home Team Away Team Kick-Off Time Hills Fav Betfair Betf -5% liquidity
Blackburn Arsenal 12:45 1.95 1.94 1.89 £ 1,913
Aston Villa Newcastle 15:00 2.00 1.99 1.94 £ 405
Bolton Norwich 15:00 1.83 1.81 1.77 £ 2,087
Everton Wigan 15:00 1.57 1.58 1.55 £ 262
Swansea West Brom 15:00 2.80 2.78 2.69 £ 220
Wolves QPR 15:00 2.00 1.99 1.94 £ 214

Hill better than in 6 games, never mind the 5%. Doesnt look right to me, whats the liquidity figures mean?

Ive got these for BF price near ko

Blackburn Arsenal 2.12
Aston Villa Newcastle 1.95

Probably some caveat that prices where taken 1 week before the match kicked or something, liquidity figures mean nothing for prem match days

Hills
Arsenal   v   Olympiacos 1.40
Zenit St Petersburg   v   Porto    2.50
Valencia   v   Chelsea    2.50

Betfair
Arsenal   v   Olympiacos 1.44
Zenit St Petersburg   v   Porto    2.54
Valencia   v   Chelsea    2.6

Not much in it on favourites, the outsider draw would imagine its higher on betfair. But thats always been the case. Hills are selecting prices at times (not match days) and types (favourites) so that they look good.

Hope no offence caused Brendan. I'm talking about the people who would class themselves as pro fooball punters but miss out on all sorts of value.

no worries.

how does it work then. Hills (or whoever) would only get the call when they were best priced (usually on favourites and hopefully offering value) how long would accounts last?

If you phoned a bookmaker and said £X on Valencia and £Y on the Draw for todays CL would they happily take it?

Brendan - I was looking at a few last matches last night too and I couldn't find any examples of Hills being better value. Favourites were not too far away after you took commission off (depends on your rate really I guess), but draw / outsider was much better on here. This is what I expected, but was surprised by Hills' claims - hence the post.

Silverback - agree, but I normally just take the price on here as I rarely keep a position through to the end and the net basis of commission calculation makes it better value here: Hills would need to be better pre-comm which on their slide they were.

Again, Pinny don't ban winners, at least not winners on major events, because of the way they set their prices.

I hate the fact that sometimes I act like a walking advert for that firm, but they have their downside for some (Limited in play betting, not many european sports covered, website that only works when the hamster is awake etc).

With regards the Hills thing, didn't they have a best priced faves promo on Soccer recently. I seem to remember actually placing bets in their shops for the first time in years.

another downside of pinny is no derivative markets. If they priced that up to 3% and went in play, it would be a dream [;)]

What does "1st betfair price" mean on page 15?

Pinny are a decent firm. Lines are pretty sharp on the whole. Not sure why but they always seem to be short on the NFL  spread I want hence the fact I've only used them a few times in 3 years on NFL. Can't say a bad word about them though.

On more general note, the original pdf is for potential investors and the only bit that we checked ourselves is half truth and spin at best.

Wonder whats in the rest of the pdf. Mugging off their future shareholders Confused
