interesting Service announcement update  re: Saturday's outage(s):

"The API problems on Saturday have now been investigated and the root cause has been pin pointed to a new version update of our monitoring system which was recently upgraded. Higher than normal API load this Saturday caused the monitoring application to perform poorly, which subsequently impacted the performance of our API solution. We restored  service on Saturday by reverting to the previously installed version of the application monitoring software. We’re now liaising with the 3rd party provider of the monitoring tool, to make sure problems like this do not occur again."

so BF have a 3rd party monitoring system ... well, actually BF, you have two 3rd party monitoring systems. Dunno what Monitoring System #1 is called, or what it costs, but Monitoring System #2 is called "General Betting" and it's free!!!
Report brendanuk1 September 26, 2011 9:12 PM BST
upgrade was or was not tested under realistic load Confused
Report gus September 26, 2011 9:32 PM BST
dunno, but I'd have thought that if you want to test performance, the best measure would be performance at the user end.

for example, you could take the average refresh rates of the half-dozen most reliable API applications (which BF could do because each app logs on with its own its unique softwareId at the start of a session), and then if the average r/r for a sample of the application instances  drops below a critical threshold, then BF would know they have a problem and a big red light would start flashing at BF Towers ... they'd also know which call e.g to update markets or update bets or whatever was having the problem.

i charge $1000 per hour in cash, in advance, and am available outside pub opening times Happy
Report brendanuk1 September 26, 2011 9:58 PM BST
Best way is the take new upgrade for a spin away from production completely. Find issues before they bring the API down on Saturday afternoon. They have issues around testing that still havent been resolved
