Always been a trader/punter on betfair, but have decided to take a short break from this in order to delve into the world of arbing, at the same time racking up some betfair points to reduce my comm rate.
Having only ever done this on a small scale before, i wanted to ask - how safe is it? We all know how draconian online bookies can be, and i realise how easy it can be to get an account closed, but what is actually to stop a bookie actually voiding one of your bets randomly?
For example, I came across this paragraph when i was looking into the offer bonus for b365 (i don't have an account with them yet):
Where any term of the offer or promotion is breached or there is any evidence of a series of bets placed by a customer or group of customers, which due to a deposit bonus, enhanced payments, free bets or any other promotional offer results in guaranteed customer profits irrespective of the outcome, whether individually or as part of a group, b365 reserves the right to reclaim the bonus element of such offers and in their absolute discretion either settle bets at the correct odds, void the free bets or void any bet funded by the deposit bonus. In addition b365 reserve the right to levy an administration charge on the customer up to the value of the deposit bonus, free bet or additional payment to cover administrative costs. We further reserve the right to ask any customer to provide sufficient documentation for us to be satisfied in our absolute discretion as to the customer's identity prior to us crediting any bonus, free bet or offer to their account.
Doesn't exactly make good reading does it? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
I've had multiple accounts with all the major books many times over and never had any problems . As long as you stick to the most reputable books ie those rated B- or higher on SBR your unlikely to have any grief providing you exercise a degree of common sense in your bagging / arbing strategies ...

in you live in latvia arbing may be worth it! - otherwise there are easier ways make a living imo.I work for a bookmaker and arbers are easily indentified and resricted to minimal limits.

If a bookmaker didnt ever limit or ban customers there would not be much of an industry.Companies would go bust with inside knowledge i.e Horse Racing. I agree that some companies are an absolute joke when it comes to restricting customers i.e Blue sq** are a joke but some customers are never good business. I am restricted/closed from various bookies just like you.

arbers are easily identified" is a bit of an overstatement!
im afraid not - if a price is a decent arb there will be other marked up parasites/arbers on the same selection. If your on it and even if its your 1st bet you will be tagged as a possible arber

Mr. Craigs do you take your money out from bookies or do you arb out to betfair? I've done also some arbing without getting limited on bookies side but I'm afraid to make withdrawal because I think might get limited then....so I've sometimes tried to arb out to betfair but always goes the wrong way. I know that when taking prices that are similar here and there then actually I'm taking value on bookies side but have tried also on underdogs when price is similar on fav but still it goes the wrong way....I'm sure that many people make good money by arbing and I'm also sure that many of them arb out but how do you do it? What is the best practise? One thing I havent tried yet what seems maybe is the best. To go all in bookies side on very short favs and lay here and eventually I will hit a strong fav that loses....but to try and arb out little bit at a time seems quite impossible....

Surely bookies though would benefit from an arber who was dealing in high odds, meaning they would generally be down on the bookie's site despite the odd winner?

Just to say that paragraph from 365 is complete legal bullsh1t, totally uneforcable and would be laughed out of court were they stupid enough to let it go that far. It's only there to try and scare you from placing bets that they may not like.
Of course they have the right to close your account, as does any firm, but the idea that they have the right to void your bet because you used it to make a guaranteed profit is comical beyond belief.

not really. In the Long run arbers are unprofitable and not good business.

No i dont work for a UK Bookie and you are right the bookmaking industry is not well paid compared to other industries - everybody knows that. However once you have 5+ years exp it is reasonably well paid. Unlike other Jobs it never ever feels like a JOB. This is worth a hell of it believe me.
You can set up as many accounts as you like but you will be linked back to your original account each time - waste of time in the long run.

I'm not an arber but I think it's harsh to call someone a psrasite. It's the choice of all bookamkers what price to offer for said selection therefore you should be prepared to lay it. The bookie should be prepared to lay that pray for a certain liability otherwise why bother offering early prices / even price it up? Gone are the days of when bookies would take a view and be prepared to lay a selection.

What gets me is why bookmakers would be so worried about arbers? I mean seriously, how exactly can they pick them anyway? The suggestion is if you are on a selection that you can lay off elsewhere for a profit, then you are a possible candidate. Now if they can see that, then why can't they see the odds are too high on that selection and simply wind it in? In the world of the bookmaker never really trying to make their own book, why is it that they don't have a set up comparing prices? They can't scan prices and lower out of place prices and just let anybody on? They offer odds, they should have to lay them. If they were at the track they would, so why not? Scan the prices, keep them in line, and you have solved any arber issues. If somebody is capable of sitting at home and finding an opportunity against your out of line prices when you are a multi billion dollar turnover business, then why can't they see them?
Simple fact is bookmakers are lazy, have low iqs and prey on the weak. Would be quite easy to simply put up decent prices and allow anybody to take them but they choose not to.

You can label arbers are parasites, vultures or whatever else you want, simple fact is the bookmakers have created their own worst problem. The day they decided to start restricting or SPing all bets for certain individuals means that those people cannot get a bet either locally or online, pretty much leaving them with Exchanges. Now all the "insiders" will take 9.8, 9.6, 9.4 instead of 9/1 (they have little choice) thus exacerbating the problem.
It will look incredibly bad for early prices to follow betfair, horses would be 9/1 8/1 7/1 8/1 9/1 10/1 11/1 12/1 10/1 8/1 all within an hour, and makes any advertising worthless. So the bookies have to reasonably keep a price or they would lose business, combined with restricting winners every day makes Arbing EASIER.
I have zero sympathy for bookmakers when they've caused the problem in the first place. Having bets rang in and SP'd just because it's an arb, and being tagged as an arber after one bet just perpetuates their own problems, and I hope one day the arbers, people with inside information and general winners beat them into submission.

Simple fact is that many bookmakers are gutless cowards who will label someone an arber simply on the basis that they take top price (why the f*ck go top price if you don't want to lay it?!?)
They want stupid, thick, low IQ mugs who are happy to take awful prices or do ten match accas which never win. Should you dare to take something at 7/1 when it is 7.8 here, (even if it isn't an arb as you would have to lay at 8.0 and pay commission on top!) you become a parasite in their eyes (and some on here!), and clearly as you may actually have a chance of beating them long term your account gets closed very quickly.
They are a joke, and the sooner someone does an expose on them and get them a load of bad publicity, the better. Sadly whilst they get a great press from journalists who they can give lavish hospitality to, they can spoonfeed them garbage about what gets printed in their papers, the laughable Racing Post being the obvious example, tales of huge bets being taken when everyone with a braincell know it's rubbish.

Yes why go 7/1 if everyone else is 6/1? Bookies don't take a view anymore they just want a perfect book as much as possible.
Plus F.O.B.T's should only be allowed in casino's. I know it's people's choice to play them but they are many people's down fall.

thebert, the circs in wh/ a bookie will try viciously to void a winning bet is when you demonstrably have another accnt. open w/ it, not closed down, w/ bets still pending or a non-zero balance. They typically cover this in their t&c and will try it on, whatever the legality.
You do not want multiple accounts to have the same name, address, bank account, have the bets placed on the same computer or even show the same betting pattern.
A better approach than multiple accounts is having placers who are net losers. The prob. w/ this is that these uncontrolled losing punters lose the money they've won w/ yr arb and you never get paid out.
W/ bonuses, as long as you do a straight bf / bookie arb, you shd be fine as you are not placing more than one bet at the bookmaker.
Arbing is an essential part of what I do, partly to rack up comm. The more heavily you do it, the more you realise you can achieve the levels of profits you were expecting w/out having to spend hours reading the form (say for horses). I am laying less and taking up the too extreme (high-variance and low-variance) betting approaches more: arbing and having chunky bets (low to mid three figs.) in the late markets on runners in double figure prices.

Yes, but the thinking is that they shd leave that price to the 'straight' customer.
If an arber is on balance a losing customer for them, they don't want his bets--whether the loss is a trading loss or an out-and-out loss.

In doing so they manage their books so that they are more likely to be winning small race-in, race-out. If they have a linemaker who is better than the general market (whether he has inside info or not), they might consider holding his out-of-line prices a little longer.
But wdn't such an oddsmaker be betting for h/s, rather than working for peanuts in the industry?
The books that will be successful and grow clients will find a way to get a line on the true price w/out spending a lot on specialist expertise or making a rick that will prevent them losing on an event to skill.

tier, I am arbing in early horse racing markets in the context of market-making and taking positions in the same races.
I am laying on bf and have always lost on here (tho' by far the greater part of the cash value of the losses has come on multiples coming in at over 150-1).
One firm in particular has lost a high five figs. to me, though perhaps they haven't clocked my cash winnings in shops. I phone them up and am given £20.
These multiples have all been arbs, but significant wins (esp. over 10-1) have been due to my edging or standing part of the bet.
Bf is useful 1) in reducing variance, and 2) allowing me to deploy more of my bank, given that I am able to get on in shops and through placers at prices from 20-1 through to 50-1. As this gets harder, I shall make a decision on whether I want to use my time pricing (to book-make here) or on something else (perhaps making outright punts on a mechanical or other horse-to-follow system).

It is very difficult, though, to control your exposure to peculiarities of esp. exchanges' t&c s e.g the pc if you are arbing.
You shouldn't have to pay it, but you well might as a successful arber.

I'm in the same boat 7child, but do a Monte Carlo simulation and you will see that there is a genuine chance of paying the pc just arbing, just as there is of paying it as a random bettor.
Bf will say that pc winners shd arb or take on cross-platform bets to mitigate pc, but a Rix / Pricewise / Isiris arber on the horses cd easily rack up a long winning run on here.
