what percentage on each of the following did you make your money on

1) Pre-event gambling (i.e. one sided bets)

2) Pre-event trading (includes market making)

3) In-running gambling

4) In-running trading

I would guess

1) 10%
2) 30%
3) 10%
4) 50%

Trading and gambling are hard to separate for me though as if I have something at about fair price then I will market make (trading), after which I almost always get out of line with the market and end up exposed (gambling).

I actually wish I knew the answer to this question myself regarding the separation of gambling/trading that Bayes talks about above, but I will hazard a guess:

1) 0%
2) 0%
3) 50%
4) 50%

Same as Bayes, trading and gambling are blurred for me.

1&2) 5%
3&4) 95%

Although I haven't paid any pc yet, I am one of the 480.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to determine to what extent the sins of the traders and in-runners had been visited on the gamblers but I guess it's one of those threads a lot of people would be embarrased to post on. Laugh

Question for Feck:

Let's say you estimate that a particularly magnificent animal has a 50% chance of winning a race, so you back this animal to win at 2.2.

Later (but still before the race has started) the price drops to 1.8. Do you then refuse to lay the same animal out of principle?

You could do that without being a fly.

I dont pay PC but

1) 90%
2) 10% but only on significant price moves (Such as Mr Andersons suggestion)
3) -1%
4) -2%

just branching into the IR space, and losing (for now)

If I wasn't doing this for a living I'd have to go back to one of my old jobs of either mugging old ladies and giving them a good shoeing for good measure or selling crack to the kids (I gotta get paid).

Mr Anderson, I've nothing against closing out bets based on price.

GOM, surely roofing would be the way to go?

not yet a pc3 payer but where does laying a book or trading on a long term market as it is being affected by short term events fit into these categories (e.g. betting on the snooker world champ winner market while games are in-play)? this seems a kind of middle ground between in-running and pre-event to me.

DrWho tells me that for him is used to be:

1) 0
2) 0
3) 100
4) 0

but now is:

1) 100

This is because the in-play horse racing markets have changed significantly over the past year for a number of reasons. Therefore, to keep ahead of the curve he's had to adapt and come up with new ideas.......
