So then, 100 days to Christmas and that means I could be well £500 poorer. LaughLaughLaugh

Going to set myself a little challenge of a 4% increase on my bank over the next 100 days.

I've been testing a few laying ideas over the last 4 weeks and although that it a very small ampunt of time it would have produced a minium of 4% a day over the course of the 4 weeks, not saying I've found an edge but near enough to what I feel is enough of one to make a small percentage each day.

I'll be starting with a bank of £500, as this is enough to care about if I do lose it but not enought to lose any sleep over.

This will be strictly be on 'Nags' and hopefully it will be a 'Happy Christmas' all round.

First bet for a 2% increase is a lay of Hotham in the 15:20 at Ayr at 34 for £10.48

Good Luck[;)][;)][;)]

Hope any followers layed it.  LaughLaughLaugh

OK, I'm going to subsidize £24.95 from my Ozzy wallet and recoup that later on the football (not part of this challenge) and bring the balance back up to where it should be and I'm now at £621.69.

Next will be in the 15:25.

@Paulme.  I am not chasing a mistake I'drather take the money form anotther wallet knowing that I was correct in my choice and mabe win the £24.95 tonight or another time.  12 from 12 so happy with that!!  You can work out the liability from the bet I post.  i.e £13.02 at 9.0 would be £13.02 x 8 = £104.16

Football will be in the Liverpool match also, but will post lateras I'm waiting for a price TBM.

Morning All,  Couple of days off from the challenge due to work but back today with the 15:20 at Navan and the 15:50 at HQ.

I will continue to post on here but a collegue told me that I can go to the purple site and only pay 2.5% until 31/12 instead of my 4.5% here which obviously makes sense, there maybe the odd differnce in price between the sites but I've transfered the £634.12 over and will continue with day 7 today.

Not going to quite make the 100 days as have a few trips coming up in the next couple of months but will run it and see as far as I can get until Christmas eve.

Is there anyone out there that can do good and proper medium/long term challenge Confused
Report LordBobbbin October 8, 2011 7:23 PM BST
To be fair to Gowly, his last post said he had to go away for a few days on work. Could it be that he's simply still away???    I don't get the idea that this thread was a significant part of his life, the way your thread seems to be for you Undern.  It might well be that he'll be back in a few days to start posting. He might, of course, just be distracted.

Last time we heard, he was winning, and he always posted his bets before the off, so whatever the reason is for him not posting again, I suspect it has nothing to do with the challenge itself.
Report undern October 8, 2011 7:40 PM BST
You didn't see his other challenge thread of exact same nature .... one minute he was there and next minute he was gone ... but yep understand what you mean ...
Report LordBobbbin October 8, 2011 8:06 PM BST
I think people often underestimate how much work is involved in keeping one of these Challenge threads going. (Not saying this applies to Gowly, but it is certainly the case with these threads in general.) They think it's going to be a lot of 'fun' recording their thoughts every day, without realising the commitment that'll be needed day after day.

When I was at school, I started my own variation on the Play-By-Mail games that were something of a cult in the 80s. The players (my classmates) would be thrown into some predicament and they'd then tell me how their character was going to get out of it. I'd then write them a new move telling them what happened, and the story of their character would grow from there, with new moves coming every day.

As it turned out, my game started something of a craze. Within a few weeks, somebody else had started running their own version, and within 9 months, mine was one of 37 different games at my school, all of them being run along similar lines to mine. 6 months later though, mine was the only one left. It lasted over three and a half years (it was just as popular at the end, but I stopped it to concentrate on my exams). The next longest lasted for about a year. None of the others carried on for more than a few weeks.

The problem was, people simply didn't have a clue how hard it was to keep the thing going day after day. I spent two or more hours a day on that game (at least three if you count the time I spent during lunch-hour getting the moves from all the players), and I had a very efficient system plus lots of creative spirit to draw on. Most people would enjoy running their own game for a few days, but as soon as they hit their first rough patch, or got distracted for a day or two, or got heckled by a few players telling them their orcs weren't acting like 'real' orcs (you got plenty of annoying people questioning everything, just as you do on these threads!), they'd simply abandon the game and never give it a second thought.

I can imagine the same applies to many of these Challenge threads. Particularly when you throw in the fact that most of them are built on very uncertain foundations, and financial chaos tends to ensue with indecent haste. Kudos to you for keeping your challenge thread going for so long!

Report LordBobbbin October 16, 2011 9:29 PM BST
Why do you keep bringing this thread up????
Report undern October 17, 2011 8:09 AM BST
Simply asking the OP to update or end the challenge .... his 100 days challenge lasted 10 days and then silence .... it is not the attempt it is more the silence which I find frustrating because people start these threads and then as soon as things turn bad you simply don't hear from them ....

It is very easy to start a challenge thread but it is a lot fking harder to keep going with one ... so simply want others to complete or wind up their challenge in the right away ....
Report LordBobbbin October 17, 2011 10:01 AM BST
There's no suggestion it turned bad. He always posted his bets pre-off, and all his bets had been successful up to that point.  Perhaps he just decided to go off and do something else instead?  If he doesn't want to keep posting, that's up to him, I'd say.

Just take it as a feather in your cap that you can keep these challenges going while others can't.
Report undern October 17, 2011 10:43 AM BST
I will re-phrase ... independent of the success or otherwise of the thread it would be nice to see people end their threads I would deem in the right manner .... I agree he doesn't have to post but why start the thread in the first place if you are not prepared to finish it one way or another ...

... and it is nothing to do with my challenges other than sometimes it would be a boost up for me (when things aren't easy) to see someone else 'plugging away' with their own challenge (openly in public) through the good and bad moments ...
