General Betting

I had a good run of laying horses but I got caught out again today. I've had less then ten losses on the horses but when I lose I LOSE.
Songburst cost me just under a week's wages. It's not that much money considering I have around £123,000 in my bank account(s) but you've got to know when to quit and, after losing £3500 over the past year, I know now is the time.
Having been a reader of the forums since earlier this year (which also coincided with my first real losses. Would it only be half an excuse to say it's just a distraction?) I fully expect this topic to receive the usual immature, uneducated remarks from the scummy portion of people on here. Those Betfair 'pros' who probably waste most of their Giro on here each week. To them I know you can't be saved from the grim lives you lead...
Some characters stick out from my viewings (Odwyer, who has real problems, and Paulme, who just seems like a retarded child with his constant questioning and obnoxiousness) and I'm just glad I'm not them!
To the others on here, and I talk of the majority, who are just normal people who bet often and may win some lose some, good luck with your gambling (and it's ALL gambling, despite what those 'blessed' pros like to claim) but don't live your life through it. Or else you'll become a victim of your own greed and wallow in the muck of avarice...

even when you win you lose- I got my account hacked into earlier today. initially betfair suspended my account
then re-opened it, but now they have suspended it again as they seem to think I have something to do with the person who hacked my account you couldn't make it up  |

Judging from the tone of your post, I'd say you have a well-paid job that takes up much of your time. It's possible that your money comes from property deals - if you bought a house around a decade ago, you could easily have made a sum like that without needing a brilliantly paid job. (If I sold my house, I'd still have around £150K after clearing my mortgage, and the pay in my job was always very modest.)
I imagine you've only ever played around with your Betfair account. You assumed it would be straightforward for somebody like you to wade in with a bit of money and coin it in. But racing is very hard. It takes a huge amount of time to get your head around the various factors and learn how to play them. Given the Pleased-With-Yourself tone of your original post, you probably feel like you've got plenty of money as it is. You're not, therefore, motivated to put in the enormous amount of work and dedication needed to succeed. Fair enough, and it's very sensible of you to quit now. But don't assume that the rest of us merely play around in the markets as you have done. |

Wow, I don't know where to start with comment, but I'll start somewhere..... 3.5k is alot of money to 98% of the people on betfair, they are known as the chickens that fund the Wolves(you no doubt) lifestyles, it would take an average man on the street months to save that sort of money from working hard 9-5. 20k in 5 minutes? that comments has the hallmarks of a fantasist, but I don't know you. Lastly, it's irresponsible to tell someone to say "don't stop until you've won it all back" - gambling's addictive, that's not a wise comment to make, people's lives have been destroyed by it. |

£3.5k in a year may be peanuts to some, it may be a lot of money to others. Similarly £123k in the bank might be a lot to some, to others it's not so much. One question - why isn't that kind of money being better invested than left in the bank?
As others have said though, if you can't make it pay on here, then you are wise to quit, but many do make it pay. |

My comment wasn't really meant to be taken seriously (except the losing £20k in 5 minutes part, which is true). Of course I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to engage in problem gambling type of behaviour. |

GoingNow- the essense of what you say is correct.
Gamblers are quite delusional by nature. If everyone who posts on this forum that they win were telling the truth there would be no losers or markets. I firmy believe that if BetFair had not been invented, most forumites would be better off financially. Good luck in whatever you do and well done for seeing the light. |

£3.5k a year is lot but not the end of world.. ultimately no one can gamble forever.. we have all got to stop and leave while ahead or cut our losses..

Not all Betfair users are gamblers.
A gamble is a gamble when the odds are in favour of the house and you hope to fluke a win. There's a good deal more to this story, 3,500 for an entire year is peanuts. A wild guess...you're getting married and want to hide your dirty little secret  Happens more often than people selling cars on Ebay because they are "expecting a baby" |
