Thought I'd start a new thread for this rather than carry all the baggage over from the General Betting Summer Drinks thread. The state of play on that thread was

Hamilton Sunday 18th September

1) Feck N, Eejit
2) The Magician
3) Duncan Disordorli (carrying 10lb overweight)
4) Bayes
5) Stewarty
6+) Several others have put their names forward as possibles and hopefully they'll confirm.

The meeting above that I suggested is a meeting I've always liked as it's the sole flat fixture that day which would normally mean I wouldn't miss much racing by attending. Having said that, I'm doing very little betting just now as I'm working on automation so it wouldn't bother me if the rest of you want to change the date and meeting. The following Scottish fixtures are coming up soon, all this month

Thu 15 Ayr
Fri 16 Ayr
Sat 17 Ayr (Gold Cup)
Sun 18 Hamilton
Mon 19 Hamilton
Wed 21 Perth (jumps)
Thu 22 Perth (jumps)
Sun 25 Musselburgh
Mon 26 Hamilton
Tue 27 Ayr

Hopefully those of you coming from afar are thinking of staying overnight so we can book a hotel and have a good drink and discussion. If you're still thinking of coming then post your meeting preference and whether you'd like to stay the night before or after racing or not at all.

While I'm at it, I was 'talking' with Muqbil and we were thinking a midlands meeting at some point would be a good idea. Muqbil was saying the Wolverhampton hotel is such that you can watch the racing without leaving the bar which is open all night. That sounds like an ideal meeting place imo.

08:00     London Kings Cross [KGX] Platform 6     Perth [PTH] Platform 5     13:53 (£78.50 first class for internet/ power point for laptop)

I think we'll be a bit knackered getting the 7 train [;)]

coming back:
12:00     Perth [PTH] Platform 5     London Kings Cross [KGX]     17:56     5h 56m (standard at £60.50)

Report Feck N. Eejit September 13, 2011 1:46 PM BST
Fk, I ask people for hotel info and then as soon as I book I come back here 2 minutes later to find Investor's post. I can cancel but I can see no £35 Investor. It's showing £65 for a single, £110 for a double from this page http://www.newcountyhotel.com/
Report Feck N. Eejit September 13, 2011 2:08 PM BST
And the £65 doesn't include B&B at the new county. The Salutation is £52 single, £82 twin if done through http://www.strathmorehotels.com/Salutation+Hotel/Home/ and that includes B&B.

The only reference I can see to £35 B&B at new county is for last minute midweek deals.

Interesting thread guys (I might have joined you, but not into Jumps). Shows how difficult it is to arrange something like this; I admire your tenacity in trying.

I was interested in the comment someone made about leniency with check-in times for domestic flights. We had a wedding in Brighton last weekend, and my mother booked a 6:55 flight (from Mnchester). Says she was there 30mins before, and they had closed the gate and wouldn't let her on the flight. I'd be interested in any comments on this, as it seemed harsh (for a domestic flight) to me!

Investor, as a test I put in the dates as today staying till tomorrow and it came up even dearer than £65 so I don't know how you get the £35. Hi Contrarian. I was about to advise everyone to book through this link

http://www.strathmorehotels.com/
Salutation+Hotel/Home/

as I did earlier. At that time it was asking for £52 single, £82 twin. I now see that has changed to £85 single, £110 twin. I thought my email requiring about vacant rooms for a party of 10-12 might have secured us an offer of a block booking discount, instead it seems to have put them into rip-off mode. If the rest of you want to change I can cancel my booking.

When I first read that vis I thought the last word was wetters. Laugh

I emailed them last night regarding the price change and received this reply

Thank you for your email.

To explain - our rates change as the availability decreases and it is quite possible that during the day if there has benn heavy demand for a particular date the rates would change as space for bedrooms reduces.

However as you intend to bring a large group to the hotel I would certainly be prepared to offer you the rate quoted at the earlier part of the day.

If you could email me personally with all the names and the bedroom requirements I will arrange for the rooms to be charged at £55.00 a single and £85.00 for a twin. I will also require credit card details to hold the booking or the individual guests can call the hotel with their numbers.

I would also be happy to upgrade your room to VIP status as a gesture of good will.

I do hope this is in order and look forward to hearing from you.

lol

Typical nonsensical charging strucuture. Traveling from North London to Gatwick Airport, it's cheaper to get a zone 1-6 travelcard and train ticket from boundary zone 6 to Gatwick, than it is to get a simple single.

And often it's cheaper to get 2 singles than a return, or to get 2 separate tickets from a to b and b to c than directly from a to c.

Thanks all. I've forwarded the names to the hotel manager so just book in under your own name. I've told him I'll be paying for all the rooms but you'll be paying any extras yourselves. Incidentally, the money I'm using to pay the hotel rooms is from a bet the magician laid me a few years ago. We agreed whoever won the bet would fly down to meet the other and buy them a meal and drink. I won the bet but never got round to the meet up so I'm using that money to pay the rooms. I say this because I don't want anyone to feel they've got to reciprocate at any later meet ups.

I take it the tight schedule (and possibility of delays) for the border crossing five makes the hotel before racing an impractical meeting point? That being the case, anyone suggest how we meet up. I could pm you all my mobile if I had one Cry.

Thanks for putting us up Feck.

Happy to say that I woke up dry as a bone (for once).

I wonder what happened to big ("I'm off to get pissed") Grant?
Report Feck N. Eejit September 24, 2011 1:13 PM BST

I'm having severe connection problems, however did anybody ply Feck with enough alcohol to make him give away his (masonic) ratings? If so, could you please E.Mail me with them at stewartybstillwearingparishboots@AOL.com. All replies will be treated in strictest confidence.

The only revelation I heard was that a certain party was m@sturb@ting to a certain other party's girlfriend on a regular basis. [;)]

And give the pickup lines the GFs party was telling me are sure fire winners - I have not ideas how he got or maintains that GF

sorry, stewarty b, sadly nothing to report. We clearly didn't supply the requisite amount of quality whiskey for Feck to leak any 'secrets' :(

Not sure what Feck is talking about in his last post tbhBlush

Muqbil, had I been there hre would have had 30-40mg of Diazepam added to each drink. He would have sung like a canary. Laugh Plus we could have started up our own tipping line.

Maybe next time when he has a 'taster' we can bribe. Or we could go down the 'Russian route' if he proves to be stubborn......

Had I handed over the entire source code for my programme it would still be a waste of time stewarty. Despite the fact I was the one who wrote it I can't even fathom it these days. Cry

What I want to know is why the certain other party's girlfriend wasn't brought up to meet old Feck. What have they heard. [:(]
Report stewarty b October 2, 2011 3:46 PM BST
Feck, I'm sure you're code would have went down well. Preferably in it's entirety.

As for introducing you to other 'girlfriends', even though I'm not a bad looking bloke, (according to my dear old mum) I wouldn't trust you with mrs stew when it comes to showing off wedges. Albeiet those parish boots gave me a good learning curve. But if she was inclined to go for the 'poor'  eastenders like yourself, I'd soon be kicked into touch. Laugh

PS I shouldn't post hungover. Laugh
