I have now had it confirmed
Any bet we now have matched on Betfair is no longer governed in any way shape or form by the UK GC. (I must admit the impact of BF’s move to Gibraltar did not fully dawn on me, especially that the GC now has no authority over my Betfair bets.)
Seems the GRA is our judge and jury now.... no Idea if that is good or bad... but at least they have a record of making decision rather than avoiding every dispute totally LOL
so I guess it will prove an improvement

Don't know about Gibraltar, but I've been waiting 6 months for the Malta Lotteries & Gaming commission to come back regarding funds that were 'confiscated' by bookmaker betsson. The bookie didn't even give a reason, and said they were not prepared to discuss the matter.
I can't imagine a UK bookie getting away with such ridiculous behaviour for so long without resolution. It seems very likely that I will have to take my case to court, which will result in more of my time wasted to get back a sum that isn't worth bothering with. It's become a matter of principle though.

I've said it before.
It is complete madness for any Government to allows billions of pounds of its peoples hard earned to be frittered away into off shore gambling organisations.
It should be made illegal.
Either pay our taxes,(or a fat licence fee), or don't do business with our people.

I don't think the issue of legal jurisdiction for punters betting with firms based offshore is clear.
No expert here, but I am sure in the USA their courts treat the business as having been transacted where the punter is stationed, rather than where the firm is stationed.
It would be nice to see people take up the fight to test this in the UK.

the bookies where squealing last month about the goverment looking at a licence to take uk bets from offshore companys

as I said did not fully realize that my bet given the origin of my leg being the UK fell completely outside of the Gambling Act.
anyway I cant see this being a bad thing.... because the GC did noting with regard section 336 and 42 anyway (in racing terms)

when you say you have it confirmed by whom exactly and what did they say?
Two different sources.... prefer not to indicate exactly...
but seems to make sense... though, would have thought a UK citizen had some obligation to abide by the Gambling Act, while living here, irregardless of where his bet is matched
