Betfair launches 90s Ferrero Rocher ad spoof

By Sara Kimberley, campaignlive.co.uk, 12 August 2011, 02:50PM

Betfair, the online betting site, has launched a viral campaign creating a pastiche of the classic 90's Ferrero Rocher ad, starring sporting heroes.
The online campaign, created by Big Al's Creative Emporium, features cricketer Michael Vaughan, footballer Lee Dixon, horse trainer Paul Nicholls and rugby presenter Will Greenwood as the "ambassadors" of the party.

The ad plays on the 1990’s classic Ferrero Rocher's ad, famed for its line "Ambassador, with this Rocher you are really spoiling us".

The Betfair ad features the same ambassador’s party, except the Ferrero Rocher chocolates have been replaced by betting balls with tip-offs in the middle. One of the female partygoers says in a European accent, "Oh Ambassador Dixon, with these delicious football insights you are really spoiling us".

When asked how good his rugby insights are, "Ambassador Greenwood" replies in his broad Yorkshire accent "Excellente". The strapline reads "Enjoy the reception at Betfair.com".

The ad was directed by Matt Lipsey. The production company was Tantrum and the ad was produced by Ali Fraser.

The ads, which are now live, are running as pre-rolls on E-player, Yahoo, ITV and 4OD.
Betfair introduced its four brand ambassadors and ended its relationship with FC Barcelona after two years, earlier this month. The sports stars have signed up to front Betfair ads for the next year.

Earlier this week, the online sports betting provider placed QR codes on the bikini bottoms of two beach volleyball sportswomen, in a bid to sign up new customers at the test Olympic beach volleyball tournament.

There was a thread on this a few days ago.

At the risk of being predictable, it's as crap as all their other ads.

I not understand what value these peoples bring.  If we want Lee Dixon, we can see him on match of the day.

weirdly, when I saw what I thought was a good price I'd often hear this little voice in my head say "monsieur, with this 2.4 you are really spoiling us!"

that's another harmless autistic-spectrum tic ruined. Sad

On a serious note, what an absolutely awful u-turn.

Now,a according to the advert, the only difference between Betfair and other bookmakers is in the quality of the expert picks.

Oh my f*cking life.

their advertising's been a bit of a shambles of late. the same agency (who incidentally were apparently given the account without officially pitching) came up with the much-derided betfair front room, and the cut out the middleman campaign that the asa told them to take off.

now that agency's been replaced by another one without pitching for the business.

btw, here's the agency's version of the front room:

it was a colossal success apparently.

I never understood the front room stuff at all, it had to be explained to me on here what the point of it was and I still don't know if there was a league or something those guys were playing for.

The middleman advert was surely one of the worst ever, in fact only the "yip yip yip" made any sense at all, and that was kinda tarnished by being around at the same time as PC1 and so rather lost it's appeal.

Now this latest one yet again makes no real sense. "Come to Betfair, we've got a horsey guy, a rugby guy, a washed up footballer from the, um, well some decade or other and a notoriously opinioned cricketer"

lori - if you want to be a bit nauseated, take a look at the team behind the front room and middleman campaigns:

all your prejudices about advertising will be confirmed.

Oh jesus.

Thanks for that Cry

Why don’t we list all our crew

We’d love to, because we’re really proud of them. But bitter past experience has taught us that dastardly headhunters will just use the information to try and pressgang them away from us.
