I remember when Betfair forst created markets and no one played on them. It was like going back in time today after looking at the Rugby and MotoGP markets.

Absolutely no one playing in them.

Well done Betfair you have created a ghost town

Handicap in-running on the Wales v. Eng match comparable to a curry cup match.

Looks like people have stopped trading in any fringe markets. Unless it is match odds there is just no money anymore.

I havent noticed any drop in liquidity on greyhound racing in fact it seems slightly better, first race
at newcastle this afternoon produced over 13,000 on betfair and only 450 at the duckpond of which less than 100 is the real comparative figure due to duckponds bias matched money formula, so thats 130 times the liquidity advantage to betfair customers, well done betfair!

These are the markets have taken a pounding with the upping of the P.C., whilst fast picture merchants and courtsiders probably uneffected.  BF need to revist the situation fast.

Only a futher grand matched in the main hadicap Wales Eng game - 25 mins into second half.  I've never known it this bad.

sm is correct nearly all side markets are devoid of money now. bf fanatic you can keep beating the drum but there is without doubt less money in smaller markets.

you can defend the situation as much as you want bf

fananatic but i can tell that since 18/7 ive barely

had a bet on betfair purely because of the 40% id

have to pay. i provide a pretty decent amount of

liquidity id like to think and have now spent nearly

3 weeks on purple.  of course its not ideal, i know

that but at 2.5% currently and even if that rises to

say 5%, i realy have no choice.

getting matched pre is no problem really, clearly

its harder in play but if i have to offer 1.7 about

a 1.64 shot on betfair then so be it, miles cheaper

than the pc for me.

i used to love betfair but basically been pushed

away.  u would think ive won all my money out of

their own pocket.

You are joking? No money in 250/Moto2 and Motogp poles today. Very little matched during the races.

F1 is the same with all the side markets having bugger all showing pre and during the races.

I have never missed an F1 or bike race on here and it is massively illiquid now compared to just last year and before.

We must agree to differ.  I see little difference to how they are now to how they were, pre PC2. 125, you mean, not 250 and Moto2 are illiquid but similar to previously.

gotta say, I've been caught out (stuck in positions) three times in the last week or so by dire liquidity in subsidiary markets. normally my feel's better than that.

not sure if it means anything, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on it and playing more cautiously.

Liquidity on today's football looks lower than last year.

£4.3m matched on the Newcastle v Arsenal match odds.

On the first Saturday of the Premiership last year, the amounts on the two UK televised games were higher:

Tottenham v Man City   £6.9m matched on matched odds
Chelsea v West Brom    £5.1m

I'm playing elsewhere too and actually doing the best I've ever done for a good while. Won't get in to bed with people who treat you with contempt even though I could stay and not pay anything extra just yet, I would feel uncomfortable about it and going against what I believe in.
Plus I think eventually I would fall into the charging bracket anyway such is my desire to suck seed lol.

do you have the numbers over all EPL matches today at betfair?
By:

When: 13 Aug 11 21:35
nairda,

No, I didn't collect the data today (apart from the Newcastle Arsenal game).

As soon as Betfair release the data (in a couple of days), I'll post the results here with the comparison to last year.

Given how little I was getting matched on the 3pm EPL games, though, I strongly suspect that liquidity is down from the levels we were getting over the 2010-2011 season.

Liquidity on the smaller in-play markets on many football markets seem to be nearly non-existent over the last few weeks.Seems too much of a coincidence that this was when PC2 came in.I always liked to play some of these, very disturbing.

Of course liquidity will reduce. It's common sense big hitters are not going to place their big bets here if they have to pay 40-60%. That would be just stupid, they will only to do it where there is no other alternative.
By:
catfloppo
When: 14 Aug 11 11:49
I think the liquidity on here is more complex than that, layer1982.  For a start 'big hitters' do not necessarily place big bets and those that do aren't the ones contributing most of the liquidity.  It will be interesting to see how it turns out but I would guess bf are shrewd enough that if their business started to collapse they would consider changing things again.

Has no one considered the effect all the riots may have had on betting on football, aren't alot of the biggest clubs in London and cities that are around these areas, anybody got the figures on attendances at the grounds?

I know its a long shot for a factor and is irrelevant to motor sports and the like but it could have had an effect but of course I do agree with most that pc2 is the favorite cause of the lack of liquidity in side markets, core markets seem buoyant in my observations!

What would the effect be on Olympic betting and attendances 2 days after major riots in london, quite a cause for concern the safety of the city next year!

I can see the quarterly report now.

"The Directors report a significant fall in liquidity in exchange markets following the introduction of the new improved Premium Charges, and attribute this to the London riots."

THE GAURDIAN 1 DAY AGO

Enter a new football season, this time to the accompaniment of noises off with which the game was once depressingly familiar: police sirens, breaking glass and politicians bewailing a breakdown in law and order. In sharp contrast to the worst of the hooliganism of the 70s and 80s football is an innocent bystander, yet some fixtures have been called off, including an England match at Wembley, and the entire opening Premier League programme was for a time in doubt.

Even when the fans were running riot the idea of stopping everybody playing was never a serious option. That would have meant the hooligans had won, or so the argument went. This weekend's matches have come under threat because the policing of games could weaken the numbers of officers needed for more urgent constabulary duty elsewhere.

It is a bizarre situation. All-seated English football stadiums, their crowds controlled by ever more sophisticated police surveillance techniques, have never been safer. Yet, at the moment, they are oases of security compared to what has been happening on the streets,
