Poor Peter, I remember seeing a blogpost of his where he even takes his laptop on holiday with him to bet, the stress of missing a weekend trading could finish him off. Only hope betfair can sleep with that on their conscience.

is this the best way betfair can think about handling this?
i appreciate that the criteria he may have met to have been flagged for investigation should not be explained, but how many people has he got following him? would a simple, sympathetic phonecall not have made more sense with a request to keep it confidential until the investigation was complete (with a sweetener if a mistake was made on BF's behalf)? |

I'm sure it will all be OK. This was obviously just a one-off:
Betfair has charged a player €32,000 in premium fees. On December 2nd, the player's account was suspended. On December 15th, Betfair reopened the account after debiting the player's account for what it said was "suspicion of premium charges evasion". The player states that he has only bet in 150 markets over the last 4 months, and therefor should not have to pay the assessed fee. Betfair justified its seizure to the player by stating that he and four other accounts from his country made similar market bets. No, a two-off at least:
A player deposited €300 with betfair on November 13th. The player repeatedly used the Happy Hour bonus, eventually betting €1000 a hand. He increased his balance up to €32,071 Euro with the help of the promotion, which allowed unlimited bonuses. He successfully withdrew the money to his checking account, where it was credited on November 16th. I checked with my bank and they would do so if a card was registered on the account. And Betfair did not indicate to Sportsbook Review that the customer's version was incorrect.

For sure you can debit a card account, but never a straight bank account anywhere imo.
Portuguese, double dutch or whatever. |

If you have used some sort of card to make cash inputs to BF then I agree that they can probably direct debit the same.
But if you have just credited into BF from a bank account, using the normal transfer system, then they would not be able to debit your bank account for anything ever without your specific permission. |

But Portuguese banks operate no differently from any others, to my limited knowledge of them anyway. Do you or Lori know differently perhaps ?. Meat on the bones. You know that sort of stuff. Or just the usual rumour/innuendo stuff as always, misleading all and sundry with crackpot insinuations of malpractice by BF ?. Gets a bit tiresome you know to us straight, innocent types. |
