I have a new PC and am unable to download the P+L spreadsheets from here. I can do it ok on my old laptop (running Excel 97 and Windows Vista) but with my new PC (running Windows 7 and Excel 2010) I can't get them to open. The following message appears when I try to open a downloaded file:
"Excel found unreadable content in 'BettingPandL.xls'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes."
I click 'Yes' but nothing happens. Any of you tech wizards able to solve this problem for me please?

Been happening for ages, I get the same error with win 7 and excel 2003 but it fixes the error when I click yes. Some people are using open office to open the file then save it and reopen with excel after.
God knows why they didn't stick to a simple format like csv files for the downloads that everyone could open. |

I don't have Excel 2010, but excel 2010 is xlm and the sheet BettingPandL is xls.
You could try ~ opening up a workbook, go to options, click excel options, click save, Where it says Save file in this format click in drop down box, Excel 97-2003. Then download 'BettingPandL.xls' and open. When finished revert the options back to Excel. Workbook |

I've had the same problem. The only solution I've found is to download the P&L, then use OpenOffice Calc to open the download then save file as an excel file. It's a bit messy but works for me.

This site, at the bottom of the first page suggests uninstalling an update which causes the problem.

The solution is to download the file in Google Chrome. For some reason it let's you open it in excel that way, even though you still get an error message.

I do use Chrome, I haven't even tried other browsers. Off to bed, will investigate further tomorrow. Betfair have escalated but not expecting a solution.

Strange.
In Firefox I get the message "The document is corrupt and cannot be opened. To try and repair it, use the Open and Repair command in the Open dialog box and select Extract Data when prompted." And nothing works. In Chrome, I get the same error message as you, but it does work. The problem started when I installed Windows 7. |

its symptomatic of the whole fooked up site. As has been mentioned whats wrong with csv??????
Somewhere in betfair towers there is someone anally rententive saying its not broke. When 99% of customers have to work around its issues. |

It doesn't work in Firefox either.
I've just installed Open Office and can open the files with that and then save/copy & paste to Excel. Adds a bit more time but at least it works. I received this email today: Dear Templeton I am writing to you today to advise that we have noticed a posting made on the Betfair Community by yourself, and wanted to advise that we are aware of an issue that currently exists concerning the P&L display and download. This issue is being investigated by our Technical Department. Hopefully there should be a resolution shortly. I apologise for the inconvenience this causes. Should you need a report on any information on your account please contact us and we can supply a report in Excel format. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further enquiries. Have BF come back to you with a resolution of this problem TP ? I have the same problem, and it's driving me mad. Ability to download my results to Excel is the main reason I put up with paying 5% on here.

I've just switched to a new laptop running 64-bit Windows 7 and clicking the Download to Spreadsheet link causes this message: "Microsoft Excel The document is corrupt and cannot be opened. To try and repair it, use the Open and Repair command in the Open dialog box and select Extract Data when prompted. OK" Following these instructions produces nothing. If I click `Save link as' and open the saved file in Excel, the error message is different: "Microsoft Excel Excel found unreadable content in 'BetHistory2.xls'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes. Yes No" Whether I click Yes or No, nothing happens. I've just noticed that the new machine came with Microsoft Excel Version 14.0.4760.1000 (32-bit). Should a machine with 64-bit Windows not have 64-bit Excel? Has anyone found a solution to this problem since last August? I guess I need to download Open Office and Google Chrome and see if either of those works. |
