Here's my guess,  just a bit of fun (Cry)
Calculated on a weekly basis, all guesses welcome

500 accounts affected
30 leave
50 losing weeks
20 comm gen covers charge
20 fare dodgers

Average charge (47%)  £1000 x 380 = £380,000

The 20%ers

Accounts affected?? 1000
80 losing weeks
60 comm gen covers charge
10 fare dodgers

Average charge £70 x 850 = £59,500

MINUS

Risk - absolutely fck all
Costs - premium charge avoidance team  2x£400
            help desk sick days                       3x£100

All in all a tidy theft of £438,400 per week (approximately)
Should be enough to launch the bingo and ensure an extra 2 site crashes a week

Every business in the land wants to increase its revenues whilst minimising business risk.

Why should Betfair be any different?
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 9:56 AM BST
without keep sounding like an unwelcome advocate of the premium charge as I do think it could of been implemented better, There will be some positives to come from the premium charge.

1.....the shift from a marginal business to a powerfuller profit model will ensure more success
for the betfair revolution.

2.....there is scope for a better service and more incentives for all users.

3.....stock market success in the long run will give exchanges a higher profile.

4.....big winners will be working on behalf of betfair so will finally be respected somewhere
in the betting industry instead of getting the door slammed in there face by betting industry giants.
Report iz77778 July 27, 2011 10:02 AM BST
big winners will be working on behalf

lol.....sums it up perfectly bff. betfair have changed the rules to massively benefit themselves. it's either very sad or very dumb...!
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 10:13 AM BST
I can empathize with your opinion iz77778, the number crunchers at betfair in there emergency tax creation,AKA  premium charge 2011, have considered the possible fallout from draing the profits of betfairs biggest customers, it sends an unwelcome message that shareholders and top betfair execs are the cream of the sites interest and kills the far eastern business approach that
"the customer is king" . will the punter ever escape the pauper factor ?
Report Get On MASSIVE July 27, 2011 10:13 AM BST
There is just so much wrong with your post bf fanatic I don't know where to start.

The original exchange model was about a platform for player to player betting at near 100% books. Your post contradicts itself by mentioning the "Betfair revolution". There is no "Betfair revolution", they are no better than there once enemies the High Street bookmakers. Betfair is no longer the punter's friend, surely even you have to admit this?

The exchange model has been born though and it's only a matter of time when a pure exchange takes Betfair's mantle. The big winners don't want to be "working on behalf of Betfair". It's inevitable that Betfair won't exist as an exchange in this format at some point in the future. They'll have to concede something or die.
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 10:20 AM BST
when you say "concede something or die" have you considered that if betfair died then those that all live off it will fiscally die also?
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 10:23 AM BST
surely you being a betfair customer and betfair being the premier exchange, them living and thriving would be a better option logically.
Report iz77778 July 27, 2011 10:25 AM BST

bff, there is more than half a dozen exchanges around the world. and remember, betfair got massively rich charging only 5% so if they can do it so can others.

Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 10:33 AM BST
My problem is that I love to think and calculate and always get involved with the logical mechanical processes at work in all my studies, contempt for being charged and conforming to rules cannot be placed above the priority for protecting the Eco-system that you and I wish to live and be a part of and also whatever problem with revenue depletion or/and  super-profiling the betting exchange model with better profit margins, if betfair failed the problem would still be for the next big exchange
to handle, does anyone imagine that the other exchanges want big winners pumping there profits up with bots all jumping on there sites when it costs a pretty penny to attract new customers !

If I come accross as neither pro pc or anti pc then its because there are 2 sides to every coin so
some matters need backing and some laying[:D]
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 10:38 AM BST
remember there is always a bigger picture and we as individuals are not the center of the universe but a part of it, our minds may power our own lives but without consensus action we would become increasing worthless t=form the point of independence!
Report funkymonkey July 27, 2011 11:38 AM BST
GOM is correct, there is no BF revolution, there is a BF mugging that if you are willing to fully take on the chin, then more fool you to be perfectly honest.

Anyone not actively using other exchanges by now has to ask themselves why. At the very least, use them where you can and only use this place when there is absolutely no other option.

To think the entire person to person concept has been so grossly abused by corporate greed is sad, but life goes on, companies evolve and where there is a gap in the market for enterprise, so it will be filled in time.

As BF strides towards being just another bookmaker, others will choose the exchange only route, and perhaps further to that, even niche sites specialising in an exhange model based on just one or 2 big sports could be born, to ensure liquidity. I, for one, welcome that.

There is really no genuine reason why commission rates ever need to be more than 3% in these places, there are plenty of ways to market a profitable "exchange only" site with those rates and fill it with willing market players. BF are currently doing a wonderful job of giving free advertising to the purple for a start, simply by being so greedy. The purple is filling up and so will others in time.

BF grew too big, got too "fat" and abused its position of dominance.....now it is time for the "little guys" to exploit the gap in the market.

if someone offers a unique service and after 10 years no competition can rival them then how does this constitute the accusation that its a monopoly, betfairs only real monopoly is they pay the most out of revenues to winners against what comes in the business in profit for there sweat, hardly the habit of a monster, more the affairs of a saint!

asian books make money on 3% and they are taking a risk...pinnacle making money on less....betfair is prices it's self out of markets
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 12:40 PM BST
how do asian books take any risk when they use the old black market business practice of banning  perpetual winners, I think betfair offer alot more to real winners than bookmakers offer to mugs
that buy into reduced books!
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 12:44 PM BST
perhaps the real harbingers of greed are the revenue raiders and there wannabees that use and see betfair as a cash cow and I dont mean the betfair company I mean the top 500 winning punters!

a balance has to prevail and the premium charge is the best solution to the problem, love it or hate it
like marmite its here to stay!
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 1:07 PM BST
the meassage is clear for me, if you want to gamble without the need to win use a bookmaker with lesser odds, if you want to win and stay winning use betfair, there doors are always open as long as you abide by the general rules!
Report moisok July 27, 2011 1:24 PM BST
why would you continue to pay these inflated prices when you can go elsewhere?
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 1:43 PM BST
its all relative, purple arent used generally by the premium charge 2 payers as there liquidity is calculated so that its much worse than it appears so betfair with the new charge can still offer 5 to 20 times the size of average matched bet, the big winners cant switch to purple because its too far down the market ladder.

and anyone thinking that purple will help them win more will hit the same problem if they go there and win all the time a profit and cant raise there average bet size matched due to much lower liquidity!

we could all keep moaning and groaning till were blue in the face but we know we have to pay charges or betfair would go bust without making something out of us.

for me betfair are still the real deal and there liquidity is calculated honestly on matched bets not using the return values if the matcher wins on both sides but the amount staked, something that has escaped alot of punters attention but the big players no this.

the purple site have fudged the figures from the start too make there liquidity look alot better than it really is.

bf_fantastic.I think you really don't understand what a betting exchange is about at all.
Betfair was started by the very people they are imposing this 60% premium charge on.
Anyone else will see their future very clear and look for other alternatives to
invest their cash. This Pc charge 2 is a big problem and don't expect that problem to go away.
Report bf_fananatic July 27, 2011 2:53 PM BST
nonsense , betfair wasnt phased by pc 1 and pc 2 will not deter millions being won from the platform,
perhaps general punters are obsessed with the cosmetic implication without looking at the complete business mechanism form big winners and exchange company view point, there are a business, if you want image go and buy some shares in armani !
