One of the Windows I generally have up and running at all times (generally minimised) is the one that offers an analysis of the current CPU usage within the system. Can't remember the exact title of the Window, but on my Dell computer I bring it up to the fore by typing in CTRL ALT+DEL .

For reasons quite beyond me, the blue title bar of the Window has disappeared completely, making it more difficult to minimise it, expand it, or unable to click the 'X' to close the Window.  Never seen this before, and unaware of how I contrived to do it.

Could someone advise me how I get the title back on the Window?  None of my other blue Window titles have seemed to gone missing.

Thanks if you can advise.

You could try left clicking in the top portion of the window and making sure that the menu bar and navigational
toolbar are turned on. You may have to left click different areas at the top till you get the right menu to appear.

Menu Bar should appear at the first line if you left clicked in the right spot.

That's very tricky Alun. Particularly tricky since none of us can have a look at your PC. Is it only the Windows Task Manager that's lost its title bar, or is it Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) as well?   Have you done a System Restore

I take it the window hasn't just gone into full screen mode? (Pressing F11 would resolve this.)

I imagine the problem is something to do with the following:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962963

That information is for Explorer, but I suspect the same will apply to the Windows Task Manager (which I assume is the window you mean). It would be a case of going through Regedit and searching for anything with 'Toolbar' in it, and seeing if any of those Toolbar references refer to the Windows Task Manager. Not easy to do if you don't know what you're doing though, so a System Restore would certainly be the easiest first step..

And I notice you did say that it was only Task Manager that had lost its title bar, not any of the other windows, so you've already answered that question!

'Print Screen' , upload it to imageshack and then we can see what you're

One more thing. It could be that you double-clicked on the CPU Usage History bit of Windows Task Manager. If you do that, it goes into a strange mode where it shows the CPU Usage but nothing else - no title bar or anything.   If that's the case, simply do a quick double-click anywhere on the CPU Usage window and it should go back to normal.

Thanks lads for a prompt reply, I am going to need to take a few minutes to assess the contributions so far, then report back. And YES, it is the Windows Task Manager (or was before it disappeared !).

Hooray !!!

I just read Compound Magic's opening bit of advice for starters, and decided to double click the top bit of the Window, and the blue title is BACK, hopefuly never to go away again !!!

Lord Bobbin and Rocket to the Face, thank you so much for trying to help, but it looks like your magnificent efforts were on this occasion unnecessary.

I feel you have been a bit short-changed by this, so maybe to make up for it I can sing you a song or do a bit of juggling for your entertainment?

Forget the song or juggling. Can you get Strauss to put a real bowler in rather than Trott, please?

The prize goes to Lord Bobbin

If that's the case, simply do a quick double-click anywhere on the CPU Usage window and it should go back to normal. Blush

As often is the case I did not take the time to comprehend that it was not a browser problem.

Cheers

Well that's very good of you Compound!  Looks like you win narrowly on points.

Alun, Compound and I need a rematch. Can you set at your notebook with a big hammer and a can of petrol please, and then the two of us will take turns to guess which bits you'll need to replace first in order to get it working again.

As a compromise offer I just sang a few lines for you both from Cher's 'If I Could Turn Back Time' in a special high-pitched girlie voice.
