I went to place an in running bet last night on Sean O'Hair @ 13/8 to win. £4000

I placed the bet look over at the slip and somehow (i probably clicked the wrong selection as the market was re-ordered at the time) Van Pelt @ 15/8 was the selection. Bet was being confirmed on the 5 second delay.

I called VC straight up and advised it was O'Hair i had intended to place the bet on. They took about 2/3 mins to put me on hold and speak to the traders by which time it was approximately 10/11 O'Hair 4/1 Van Pelt.

Anyway they would not change the selection - i was put through to the head of customer services who asked me to email her the details and she would run it to the traders. I sent the following email :

Joanne.

I just attempted to back O'Hair in the Canadian Open golf with £3960.

As i refreshed my screen and placed the bet O'Hair had moved a place to the left in the selections and as such i backed the previous favouite Bo Van Pelt at 15/8 rather than the 13/8 O'Hair i had intended.

I immediately placed a call to your department and advised the error and asked that the bet be changed. The advisor took me subsequent to me raising the issue through a lengthy identity process before referring to the traders some time later. By this time active play had occured and they therefore understandably were reluctant to amend the bet at face value.

Please review my selection, and that no play had occured between the bet being placed, and me being connected with your office and amend my selection to Sean O'Hair.

I appreciate this event is live and me clarifying this to you formally in writing now is imperative.
Kind Regards,

Chris Rogers.
I then called and asked to speak to her. She told a colleague that she was running the email to the trading department and would return to me with a decision "In a minute". I asked if she had my number and he said yes (i was calling off it obviously).

I didn't hear from her all night, checked my email every 2 mins.

She emailed me today @ 12.45 to say the bet would stand.

Do you think that i have any recourse here. My call was connected to them within 45 seconds of the bet being placed, and at the time the prices had not changed. I put in writing to them that i wanted O'Hair but then i don't hear back until the next day - they had in writing my permission to cancel the Van Pelt bet - What if BVP had won - would they say the bet stood? Would they 'eck!

Anyway, i appreciate i have been stupid here. Is there any possibility of recourse through IBAS? I think even a small claims court may be a better route.

Any genuine advice very welcome, cheers guys.

Yeah i know i'm a complete idiot.
