surely the best form of action will be if we all go and migrate too the purple site, betdak , this would show our disgust at this charge, there horse racing markets are quite steady and this will force betfair to reconsider there policy as unworkable, to say you are happy paying more commision on a site that increases the rate all the time is just saying you are happy to be fleeced and its time for positive action
Pause Switch to Standard View is the latest charge blow telling us...

There's another thread on this. Collective action would possibly work but it's never guna happen.
Report harechaser6 July 15, 2011 1:48 AM BST
things only happen if you want and make them happen! whats the other thresd called bert?
Report pxb July 15, 2011 1:53 AM BST
Its already happening. I'm seeing volumes increase at betduck. Although still far below volumes here.
Report thebert July 15, 2011 1:57 AM BST
Well it isn't exactly what your driving at, but the thread a bit further down on this forum starting "if you're one of the Betfair 480" is about the new charges and what next etc

Will be interesting to see how much liquidity does increase over on the betdak.

i think betfair are over rating there service at the same time as under rating there value to proffessional gamblers that will now problably make more profit else where, there will be fall out, market forces always prevail.

Wishful thinking imo
Report harechaser6 July 15, 2011 12:40 PM BST
my main worry is that betafir trying too steal the customers top rewards is either going to damage the companies image or a precursor too them seeding the markets themselves which is an abuse of there operating license , they cannot in an exchange model bet against a layer or backer or they will then be liable to operating as a bookmaker!
Report catfleppo July 15, 2011 12:44 PM BST
Betfair is a registered bookeeper.
Report harechaser6 July 15, 2011 12:50 PM BST
are you sure, i seem too remember them in a legal lawsuit years ago when they opened a highstreet betfair shop in between two other high street bookmakers and they argued that betfair are operating as a bookmaker, betfairs response was that they are operating not as a traditinal bookmaker and therefore are taxed differently etc! has the situation changed? do they pay any levy as the bookmakers do?
can you fill me in on these details?
Report catfleppo July 15, 2011 1:32 PM BST
I'm not 100% but that is what I understand.

harechaser6, they don't need to 'fully' migrate, just give 30% of their buisness to see how things go.

I managed to get a decent sum on a beast this week with purple, albeit it was backed into FAV.

PS I p!ssed off when the 20% hike was introduced and still haven't paid a penny due to purple, albeit again, I may have a different stategy than most.

Twice in the last couple of days I have got better prices at the duck than available here.

I'm thinking its people including some factor for not paying the pc there.
Report curlywurly July 16, 2011 7:11 AM BST
There has been some activity in the smaller markets also, instead of the usual blank screen.

I am willing to give it a go from next week, hope some others do too.

I'm a bit worried about the lack of a bet placement delay though , as purple could become even more of a hooverers paradise than it is here

collective action from a group of self interested bettors is never going to happen

the big market makers are staying here that is certain

the in-running money will almost certainly stay here too

Listen mate.  Unless the mugs move, nobody moves.  the charge will never affect us so we stay right here.  Stop bleating and pay your FAIR share

takethestand vs the betfair bots.......nice!

There's only a delay if there is no price in the gap curly.

If you're taking an offer, standard 5 seconds applies. Although front running might become a pain.
