I get 3% with the Bank of Scotland, with no restrictions on the account.

If you are not a higher rate taxpayer then you might as well keep the money under your bed.

Aah so RBS are actually at the lower end.
The Northern Rock one looks not bad, is there a limit to when you can withdraw? I can't utilise my bank on here anymore and there's more risk with having cash in Betfair than a saving account. Excluding ISA's what other options do I have? I bought a chunk of Premium Bonds a while back, maybe that's a better idea? |

Hello there Rocket to the FACE.
Bit of a shot in the dark but if you have a mortgage then perhaps make an overpayment. Then if you want any of the money you can (or may well be able to depending on your mortgage provider) make corresponding underpayments. |

Now there's a problem I hope I won't run into for a while...

are you a normal rate tax payer - do you have a partner who is non tax or normal rate tax payer cant you commit to investing for more than one year? |
|

Look on moneysupermarket.com for the best rates
I cashed my premium bonds in due to poor performance, they used to do really well. NS and I are worth a look though, they have some index-linked savings accounts which are quite good. If you are looking to commit I would go with paying a chunk off the mortgage. |

Poor performance? I thought it worked like a lottery? I guess with low rates you have less chance of winning though.

Rocket- re. ISA's, if you're still looking I can recommend Kent Reliance Building Society, had an ISA with them for many years. They are usually pretty good with regard to interest rates, usually in the top 4 or 5 in the 'Best Buy' tables. Currently offering a standard ISA (no withdrawal penalties etc) at 3.01%

Investor, yes they started being carp when the interest rates fell and I can understand that but they returned so little over a 6 month period I liquidated them instead of some gold when I bought my house. The right choice imo, unless of course I would have won a big prize by now :/

Just opened a Northern Rock ISA as well
3.2% fixed for 12 months They say a maximum of one cash ISA limited to £5340. But on their mimimum and maximum balance column they say the maximum is £2,000,000? |
|
By:
I don't get how their 2 year plan can offer 3.55% but their 3 year plan only 3.4%

"Just opened a Northern Rock ISA as well"
