Yeh but u can only push and push until u get a thump back at u... one of lifes learning curves that Betfair is going to learn the hard way imo.

A lot depends on what those 0.1% are doing, losing a trader like Peter Webb etc isn't going to have much effect but losing some of the bigger market makers may well do. You can be pretty sure they were making more than £25K for the past 10 years and could easily slip thru that 20% PC net, at 40% you'll catch hell of a lot more big punters/MM's. They're lucky there's nowhere else to go at the moment or things could spiral out of control quite quickly for them as lets face it I can't imagine they've any real customer loyalty left just rely on apathy these days.

If anyone still plays poker here you can uninstall that.

That is what I've just done and will never pay them another penny of rake.

fll, that was my way of protesting when they introduced the charge back in 2008.
  I haven't played since.

It reminds me of all those years ago when the Government decided to put up betting tax but ended up collecting less overall because betting went underground and abroad.

Unless the big players move over to the purple place en masse, then I can't see any other way of protesting, eddie
I've even excluded myself now from their poker site, just to make doubly sure.

btw I won't have to pay the 40% rate for a number of years.
Unless they remove or reduce that 250K figure, which I wouldn't back against.

I just think what they've done is disgusting.

As someone stated in a thread earlier. The people they're hitting now are people whose cash helped build this site.

Absolutely disgraceful and amoral behaviour.

There also hitting those who have made over a 1/4 million pounds out of BF.
Irrelevant ?
Report five leaves left • June 29, 2011 2:07 AM BST
About as relevant as the amount of money the stars and fultilt pros have made out of those sites.

Why not drive them of the sites and give the small guy a chance?
Report FINE AS FROG HAIR • June 29, 2011 2:09 AM BST
My point is that the general punter will just see it as the rich elite gamblers being hit, and they will not therefore give a monkey's.
Report five leaves left • June 29, 2011 2:11 AM BST
ofc they will, but that doesn't make it right.
Report RonaldinhoRAT • June 29, 2011 2:16 AM BST

They want the big players to move en masse, in my opinion.

How so??
Report bix • June 29, 2011 11:50 AM BST
The purple one will give you 2.5% commission if you ask.
Report jimmy69 • June 29, 2011 11:58 AM BST
What's the point of going to the Purple one if you pay below 2.5% on BF?
Report betting_quant • June 29, 2011 4:52 PM BST
A lot of you arn't getting the big picture, the hike in PC is due to the launch of the long planned betfair sportsbook, the final destination of the "betfair roadmap"

betfair will be arbing the bets from the sportbook into the exchange just like the other commision agents, however where liquidity lacking they will need to introduce it themselves if they are to have a competitive sportsbook product. On occasions when they get the prices wrong and are swallowed up by the sharks, they get a 60% rebate from the PC boys.

How many bookmakers get a rebate when they've got the prices wrong ? very clever betfair!
