I have been reading about Ponzi schemes being set up relating to sports betting and have decided to go for it myself.
I require ten members by monday each investing £1000 each, the returns i am 'promising' will be 10% a month, no point in offering ridiculous returns or you might smell a rat, and you must keep your money invested for at least 6 months. Obviously when the six months are up i would prefer you to reinvest all your money, including returns, and tell all your friends about this fantastic investment opportunity. If you can persuade your friends/relatives/business aquaintances to 'invest' a total of £20,000 i'll give you a 2% sweetener. I do not have offices at this moment in time but after one month i should have a prestigious address in Mayfair and a personal chauffeur and after six months, hopefully, a personal jet. Get in early because you have far more chance of making money/at least getting your money back if you're one of the first on board.
I'll leave an e-mail address when i have my ten 'investors'.

TI : Finally the Swedish market maker, which doesn't use client funds, but as they are a listed company, you can buy shares, which in effect make some of the money bet with yours.

Aren't they owned by Betfair? If not, why would BF give away that substantial revenue stream?

I became suspicious that BF were making the markets when the market making lumps started to disappear one second before every in-play suspension, like clockwork, so much so that I now know one second in advance when a suspension will occur.
Report Trevh May 6, 2011 2:14 AM BST
No Investor, I'm not talking about people cancelling their bets, I'm talking about the main bot market making football lumps that disappear exactly one second before all suspensions. You may not have noticed it if you're not using the API with a sub one second auto refresh.

I would not be at all surprised if BF aren't the major share holder of the Swedish outfit.

Strange, your posts and one of mine have disappeared.

Yes Trevh, weird! It's gone. I've done quite a lot of research into betting promotion, so I know bf don't have a stake. As it is a publicly traded company, you can find out who the major shareholders are, although you need to sift through Swedish info and put it in google translate.

They seem to be in decline though, as their profits are down every year since 2006.

The lumpy bets dissappearing 1 second before the suspend don't surprise me that much though. I still think it is done by pressing a button when a goal goes in. Betfair usually have fast feeds so the situation like today where I was way ahead is rare. About 1  second ahead is probably quite average.

Betting promotion have people monitoring markets, so perhaps one of their instructions is to cancel all bets when a goal is scored, or is verly likely to be scored.

Report Trevh May 6, 2011 12:25 PM BST
Nah, it's triggered by and connected to BF's suspend. Like clockwork, main MMB lumps will disappear exactly and consistently one second before every suspension, not 1.5 seconds or 0.5 seconds, nothing random about it, and never missed.

What's going on here.

A LITTLE-KNOWN Swedish company turned over nearly pounds 500 million on betting exchanges, including Betfair and ****, in the first six months of 2008.
Stockholm-based Betting Promotion Ltd, which describes itself as a "market maker" who "puts up prices on markets so that customers always have plenty of opportunities", turned over more than pounds 498m in the period from January to June 2008, showing an operating profit Operating profit of around pounds 558,000.

Listed on Sweden's Nordic Growth Market, Betting Promotion, licensed by the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority, has been trading since April 2003, having started development work in June of the previous year.

Do they still operate on ****?

Yes they do buzzer.

Trevh, if that is correct, it does sound strange. It can only be Betfair. Perhaps cross matching is turned off one second prior to the suspend or something. If it is exactly one second every time, there is definitely some explaining to be done, but I have not heard this mentioned before.

the dropping profits purely down to less liquidity in their main operating leagues would you say?
Report Trevh May 6, 2011 6:50 PM BST
Yes Investor it does sound strange, I'm surprised more users haven't noticed, but you need to be watching the markets with a sub 1 second auto refresh, then it's absolutely unmistakably clear.

Buzzer, I would imagine there are now more punters jumping in front of their* money (*large MMB money) and taking a small slice of the action more so than in previous years. The opportunities are there to undercut them in a big way for someone who is bot minded and enthusiastic! Some of their spreads really take the piss, hence their profits.
Report The Investor May 7, 2011 1:21 AM BST
Yeah agree with Trevh. More competition from smaller operators, nipping away at their profit margins all over the place.
Report buzzer June 20, 2011 5:35 PM BST
Liquidity in the scandinavian leagues has dropped significantly in the last couple of years of that i'm certain.
