I know that the key to successful gambling is discipline. Without it you will never have a profit from your gambling.
I have found a system that works quite well. If I look at my history, I've only lost 1 out of 50+ bets. This is no secret, I pick a football game and bet on that there will be at least one goal per game. Tonight I was waiting for the Atletico Madrid - Villarreal game to begin. But I was bored, so I decided to bet on Miami Heat to win 76'ers. The plan was only to put bets on this game and wait for the Spanish football to begin.
Needless to say, I lost money on basketball - while Atletico won 4-1.
The moral of the story is that if I had waited for the football game, I would have made a profit (from a 95% safe system). But instead I lost money on basketball!
Some of you must have overcome the problem of such a lack of discipline. Can you give me any advice that I can keep in mind to be a more disciplined player.

I like betting on all sorts of sports - despite being better on some than others.
I suggest you bet to a specific stake or liability for your main football bets and when you want to bet on other sports use very small stakes.

How do you know the system works well if you have only had 50 bets?
place your football bets and then turn your computer off and watch the match, if you watch the match on the cpu then log out of betfair. If you can even log out of betfair after placing bets to a winning system then this game isnt for you.
nonni, discipline isn't your issue. Gambling is. Your mental set is quite obviously fixated with the notion that you are gambling & that gambling is bad. This is manifesting itself in your betting on events where you are getting rid of any money that you gain.
Gamblers play at it & gamblers lose. Society fills peoples heads with these ideas.
Think work ethic, think investment. Any bet on here is just as valid as a stock market investment. If you have put in the required groundwork it ceases to be gambling.

As TheVis says, this means nothing. A sample of 50 is too small, and if your bets are all high probability which it seems they are, then it's no big deal at all.

If you have a system that will make you rich and you still want to gamble on other stuff, you don't have a lack of discipline, you have a gambling problem.
It's only a problem in the sense that he seems to be staking way too much on his side interests.
Simply stake around 5% of your main bets on your side bets. ie: main bet is £100 simply have some fun/side bets using no more than £5.

I've recorded tens of thousands of matches as they appear on the BF in-play schedule, and runs of 150 are not that uncommon. If you get lucky you could have a run of 100 without a hit, but unless you're achieving favourable odds it won't pay long term, obviously.

Considering there is an unlimited amount of football games to be played in the forseeable future, 150 games going without a 0-0 results is near enough 100% guaranteed (if we trust in the odds).

The worst part for me, when it comes to overcoming the problem of discipline, is when I'm on a great winning streak I tend to up the stakes because of an increase in confidence, which usually ends up with me losing a good 70% of my profit from that very streak. Not the worst I know. But it's so retarded to throw money away like that.

i dont bet on football so probably not Rs1. My comment was aimed at ernie & bert thinking he meant in general "it cant be done" like so many people who dont make a profit say.
Backing 1+ goal or laying 0-0 is not a successful strategy at all. Tried that years ago when i first started out.

football can be quite rewarding when you trade an find edges ..

I only trade tennis now, taken a while but find it quite easy now the discipline is getting there. I try a bit of football in dec when tennis finishes but just lose as dont spend enough time on it.
