Exliontamer, it's probably easier to tame lions than make money consistently through long term gambling :)

I see that the problem for most is that is hard to make a huge profit percentage wise on your capital.
most talk of 2% + per week = over 100% per year. In your endeavor to make gains over 100% per annum the risk
is high of losing the lot.

If you are happy for a stress free 20% profit on capital per year, it's not to difficult at all, which is better
than losing and 4 x better than sitting in a bank. Added bonus is that you don't have to pay
tax on it.

IMO relatively easy to make between 10 and 25% profit per year depending on bank size.

Concentrate on what you know best and have some stress free fun along the way.

If you wish to risk more to make more, only do it with a % of your profits.

You have a couple of thousand spare, without much risk you can make 500.00 a year on that, as you make a profit,
risk say 50% of profit on going for the big bikkies, you may get lucky, but if the worst happens and
you lose your high risk gamble you will still make 250 for the year. Next year you may get lucky and make
a fortune but to do that you have to remain in the game.

I could probably fill a book with the lessons I've learned over the last 4 years (and fully paid for). My best pearls of advice probably also feature in the 'do you have a problem gambling' lists....., however for what its worth:

1. Learn to accept your losses with the same good grace as your wins, I've had winning runs numbering 20 bets and losing ones nearly as long.....this isn't a game for the faint hearted.
2. Have a decent staking system from the outset and stick to it (I can't stress this enough), unless you enjoy the reloading experience.
3. Try to think longer term how you can beat the exchange prices factoring in the commission, otherwise known as developing an 'edge' or 'finding value'. No-one on the forum is going to give you one for free.
4. Don't think you have a winning system until you've proven it over the long term (how long is debatable).
5. All 'systems' or 'tips' that you need to pay for are useless.
6. Betfair's own statistics tell you that only a small percentage of long term players are long term winners (although if you read this forum you'd be forgiven for thinking everyone was a winner), so you need to be in the top 5% of players just to make this any more than a recreational hobby.
7. Lay all selections in the 1.01/1.02 threads that aim to make millions.

NB. I've been on here 4 years, and this is the first year I've turned a slight profit.

Good luck ;-).

It is not easy to win.  Very few do consistently.  The odds on you winning are massively against.

You need a staking strategy. You need to find a good system using both knowledge & statistics to find value. You need the odds to be wrong. You need various accounts and to always take the best bet available using oddschecker.

If you succeed in doing this. Tell me how.

I will say though, in general. You often find value in certain markets where people don't like to back. Specifically to name one, under 2.5 goals. Alot of recreational gamblers want to sit back and enjoy a game of football, and to see lots of goals. Therefore you can find value in unders. So too in Draws, people will have strong opinions on which side will win, and they will back one or leave the bet alone. Not many people back the draws, therefore sites have alot of trouble selling these bets and can be priced higher than the probable outcome.
