Quite simply you shouldn't. If you do decide to set targets they should be much more long-term, i.e. annual profit rather than daily. If you are learning what to do, you should quite simply be trying to develop any edge/strategy or technique you have. Daily target mean that you will go looking for opportunities that are outside your comfort zone, or at markets that you really should be leaving alone.

For a pretty successful gambler/trader, and I would say 1-2% per day is a very good average.
But a bad day could be -25% and a good day +25%, though both of these would be very unusual, when a large number of bets all go right or wrong (it happens).
If one is good one can  make money almost every month, but there are many losing weeks and probably only about 55-60% of days will be profitable.
If you try to make money every day you will end up chasing losses recklessly when you are down and your bank will soon be wiped out.

Some gamblers may, and actually do, succeed in increasing their banks by over 500% per year.
That is effectively approx 1% per day ( not on a compound basis though of course).
But the point is that this is done over a year's results.
Day by day the bank will really fluctuate quite massively up and down on a percentage basis.
A day means nothing to a professional gambler.
It is simply a 24 hr period when the sun rises and sets. No more no less.
But a yearly bank increase target of circa 500 % is probably realistically achievable by a select few.

The higher the bank ,the lower the increase

Aim for 5% so you make the same as the commision does.

I would be surprised if there are any successful people on here worrying about daily percentages.  If you’re new you should look to learn as much as possible and lose as little of your 200 as possible.

On a 5K bank, I can make 1% per day, say 3 days out of 7.

The other days net out to an extra day.

So overall I make about .5% per day on my bank.

Ignore Froggie, he doesn't know what he is talking about. Of course it's compounded.

I withdraw each month to keep my bank at the same level to stop me getting too deep in any position (a problem for a cricket test match trader).

What I said was that 500% pa did not equal 1% per day compounded.
Or does it in your little cocoon of unreality ?
Report FINE AS FROG HAIR February 7, 2011 11:47 PM GMT
So let's work it out pxb.
You're making .5% on a consistent 5K bank for 4/7 th of a year.
That is, 5000*.005*360*4/7 =5,142 pa.
Wow.
When are you going to go full time and live the life of riley ?
Report FINE AS FROG HAIR February 7, 2011 11:49 PM GMT
Sorry I note you're actually claiming to make 1% per day.
So you're earning over 10 K a year.
Getting even better.
When is the super yacht purchase happening ?

So you're earning over 10 K a year.

That's right (AUD).

Otherwise, I can't be bothered to give you an english grammar lesson.
