I'd wonder about this myself. I don't believe in giving in to these types though, so hope they can sort it out. There must be something they could do? Dozens of different servers like www89.betfair.com that feed into their system or something?
There must be experts on this and ways to prevent this you'd think, IF that's the case, hope they hire them soon :(

Betfair have been under attack for some time now, mainly from those winning customers who are paying less of their profits in commission than all other winners but who think they're so important they should only pay a quarter of that. Ironically, it's their constant requests for leeching information that grinds the site to a halt.

i think today's outages are result of attack.. there is no way a upgrade can cause such issues... i work in IT but i have never seen such inconsistent outages

Whats solution? Given an attack is likely to be global .. regionalise the servers, and block e.g. a computer in asia speaking to the BF site for europe or something? Give us a server each? :)

When you traders start "PYSL" at each other's anti-Feck jibes that's when I know the fights been drained out of you. Wonder where the Smiley Sisters are tonight.
It's clearly time for me to lie back in bed with a good satisfying smoke.

Fight? By looks of things 'fighting' with Feck is like fighting with a chinless ghost, who ignores any of the direct questions against him that would obviously destroy his thinking if he actually considered them, who then pops up 10 ft to the left with something equally ridiculous..

I'm curious and have a couple of questions. Feck - what is your purpose in your series of posts, is it a case of the enjoyment in winding up the vast majority of all the posters, or is there some other purpose. Everyone else - Why do you persist in your arguments with Feck, do you honestly believe that you think that one day you will get him to admit he is wrong, or are you concerned that he might influence other people, or is there some other reason.

UA, yes I enjoy winding them up and feel they deserve it for their constant whinging about paying a lower percentage of winnings than everyone else as well as for their delusional self-importance. Also, while I'm winding them up I may well educate others as to the truth. In answer to your second question, they know I'm right but are in denial and the sheer numbers of a burgomeister / torched villagers type response to my posts often helps them in this respect. HTH.

Thanks Feck. If I may trouble you just a little further. When you refer to winding them up i assume that the "them" you are referring to are traders. Just out of interest how do you feel about traders who are not whinging about paying a lower percentage and do not have any delusional self-importance?

UA, I don't actually blame anyone for doing what they do on here and that includes even cheating. There's an element of "if I don't do it somebody else will, so why not" about it all. I blame betfair & the GC for sanctioning it and reckon it will come back to haunt betfair in the long run through a loss of custom which will be greatly accelerated by the inevitable expose. Their artificially created glut of "professional gamblers" may even see us all taxed before then something that will also result in a loss of custom with the accompanying fall in liquidity.
I'm in favour of an interface that would suit gamblers and my proposed interface would put most traders out of the game because it would deny them the information they leech off. For that reason I'm obviously at loggerheads with traders. I don't think their absence would affect liquidity one bit in the non ir markets.

Utter tripe - the API was down on Monday; the RHS of the horse-racing markets were showing o/r of 104 - 105%.
Doesn't happen when the bots are on [nap]

Hello there Feck. Hope you don't mind me asking more questions, I'm not trying to enter into a debate, again it is just for my curiousity (I am a very curious person).
You say that you don't blame traders for what they do but you would obviously prefer it if they are prevented (or severely deterred at least) from operating on this site. Is that a fair assumption of how you feel towards them. Assuming it is, why is this, is it because you personally prefer to put on straight bets and you feel that traders are bringing down the profit you could be making, or is it that you have a professional connection with Betfair and you feel that by allowing traders to operate they are in fact lowering the amount of profit they could be making and ultimately the value of the company.
Also I sense from other posts that there is a real passionate dislike towards "city traders". Did you have a bad experience involving one (one of them beat you up/stole a former girlfriend/boyfriend) or is there some other reason.

UA, it's not the traders so much as the trader friendly interface that is the problem. It deters liquidity and has turned the early markets into a game of £2 leap frog. Everyone hates city traders except city traders. They are the financial equivalents of Thommo but even more grossly overpaid.

Thanks for your response Feck. Please don't concern yourself with FAFH's comments I have no intention of trying to lull you into some false sense of security to then suddenly attack you. Everyone is allowed to think and believe whatever they want, you mention that you seem to be at loggerheads with alot of people so i thought i'd offer an alternative form of communication. So I now have another couple of questions for you.
Do you think that Betfair would financially benefit both short-term and long-term as a company if they set themselves up to not be trader friendy?
If you were the big cheese there and they did operate on your proposed basis would you not worry that a competitor might come along and offer an alternative that may then encourage your existing clients to take their business elsewhere or do you think that any competitors that are trader orientated would not affect your business?
I don't really know much about Thommo but i have assumed your city trader hatred is not based on any bad personal experience with one.
I hope you don't mind all these questions please let me know if they bother you.

Yes.

No. The exception would be ir. As I wouldn't allow any form of cheating I'd have to take the other firm to court to expose the fact that much of their "liquidity" was cheat based.

Nonsense, why havn't you taken betfair to court yet? How would you stop those people who know the result beforehand from betting?
Is there really only one singular way to have a bet which isn't considered cheating?

I think you're the one that got hit on the head Eddie. You've been hanging out with these delusionals for so long you've turned into one yourself.

Betfair would be the ones that would have to do that.

Don't know what kind of answer you expect to that.

If you want proof that I'm right look at the tote. How many traders are there on that? If you think pool betting is the only way of allowing gamblers to bet with each other without traders then you're not exactly a visionary.

I believe there are some extremely successful syndicates winning on the Tote in Hong Kong, in a computer intensive sort of manner ? Not sure though that this qualifies as "trading" and thus negates the essence of your Tote analogy.
