The odds will be more accurate nearer the start of the match. Betfair should be renamed last5minutes.com because their interface deters early betting. Come back in 12 days.

k thx for your reply

Indeed, the market would be brimming with liquidity if it wasn't for the interface with everyone eagerly queueing up to get their bet matched on a minor darts match 12 days away

KayPAX, you can put up your own (better) odds if you want.

Lay both at 1.05

The way Pipe throws, they could start today and finish in 12 days

Fair point feck, but I think the minuscule returns that would result from betting on an event nearly two weeks in advance do more to deter early betting than the interface.

Investor, my point will probably apply on the day of the event. If betfair put up odds that couldn't be changed and you had no choice but to back or lay at those odds then much more early money would be matched. I'm not advocating they do this, I'm merely illustrating that their £2 leap frog interface with its pendelum like odds swings deters liquidity.

Ok now I have got it, thanks.

@ Feck N. Eejit's second post
I did this at an German premier league match, but they havent accepted my odd, so the bet was invalid.
I just raised the quote by 0.03.
Report Feck N. Eejit January 23, 2011 5:57 PM GMT
KayPAX, the bet is only matched if another betfair customer wants to accept the bet. e.g. if you want to back a horse the bet will only be matched if another customer submits a lay of the same horse at odds greater than or equal to the odds you requested. Look on betfair as the middleman (even though they advertise there's no middleman) who is holding both your bet and the layer's bet and paying out whoever wins. Note also that your bet may only be partially matched if the layer in question submits a lower stake than what you've asked for (the remainder of your stake is left in the queue looking for others to match it).

Well, thats weird but it sounds plausible.
I should have occupied with it first.
Thanks for your advise Feck N. Eejit.

I put up 1.06 Pipe when I saw this thread and am sad to see it has not been taken.
