like i back a draw in a footie match and then wait tentavely for say 10 mins until i can green out? if someone scores i'm screwed?
how do people make hundreds a day doing this?
can someone give me a specific example?like i back a draw in a footie match and then wait tentavely for say 10 mins until i can green out? if someone scores i'm screwed?how do people make hundreds a day doing this?
Your backing as much on how the market perceive's your selections chances to be rather than the outright result.
Is their a logical reason for believing that your bet is likely to be backed into a smaller price?
Or if you lay a bet is there a reasoned argument for believing that your selection will go out in the betting.
Example £1 bet at odds of 4.0 selection gets backed down to 3.0
divide 4.0 by 3.0 = 1.33, now times 1.33 by your original stake, which in this case is £1, the final answer is £1.33, now of course you have to deduct your original stake from your profit and your left with 33p. It is errelevant to you now whether your selection triumphs or loses the event you originally backed him for.
To £1 stake.
4 divided 3, times the original stake, answer, now subtract your original stake, your left with your profit.

What does this have to do with anything at all?
You're probably overstaking or your price analysis isn't good enough.

I believe myself it is getting ever more competitive on here and it simply isn't easy to gain a profit on Betfair, remember, unlike many members of the forum seem to suggest the vast amount of the exchanges customers lose long term. Approximately 80% to 90% will not be able to sustain a profit.

Paulol - I actually think that if you are trading in play then you are actually more "betting" that "trading". There are obviously exceptions to this and it is only my opinion but if for example you place a draw bet at the beginning of the game and then trade out 10 minutes later what your really doing is placing a bet that there wont be a goal in the first 10 minutes (assuming a goal will push the draw price out which is not always the case). Purest trading happens before the game actually takes place or when the game is not actually in play (e.g in football at half time).
Try looking at pre-match as well as in-play. Unfortunately the simple answer to what you have to do is dedicate time to following prices and trying to identify patterns. Oh and also a large fund helps enormously especially if you want to earn a vaguely half decent amount. But there is no substitute to being committed and putting in the time.

i understand that a bigger stake will help this technique, however it also increases the risk too. e.g. if i put a tenner on a draw to then lay it 10 mins later i'm not risking much.
if i put a grand on a match staying 2-2 at HT and then 1 minute into the 2nd half someone score... i'm ****ed
think theres lots more to this but at the moment the above is my understanding of "betfair trading" :(

so therefore to me gambling that an odd will shorten is more high risk than blindly betting big on a tennis favourite, which i have done on other sites and lost badly

I know that in the outright markets in the Australian Open tennis championships the favourite in th mens and ladies singles have a very good record in the last ten years, you could back now in order to lay later on in the tournament.
Obviously its gambling but history seems to suggest you'd have a very realistic chance of laying off for a profit on this event.

Though if you are tempted by the favourites I myself probably would just allow the bet to stand and not trade out. A lot of times I have tried trading more often I get matched on the winners and get frustrated on the bets which lose.

Its for your judgement obviously the longer in the tournament you wait the more potential profit in trading out but the flip side is that you'll expose yourself to more risk I.e.that your selection will be knocked out of the competition which will of course meaan you've lost your whole stake.

Maybe there's more justification of trading on longer price selections than on favourites. Say for example you only back 66/1 shots on the outright golf market and you find that your able to get a winning selection every fifty times, this would give you a potential profit
but would your bank allow you to wait long enough to take advantage of this edge? In this case it maybe better to trade in running for a profit than delay and go bankrupt chasing the 66/1 jackpot.
