I went abroad recently with my mobile. Before I went I had it unlocked for a few quid in a few minutes in our hight street. Bought a SIM at the airport when I arrived, it worked fine.
But when I went into a rural area there was no signal at all, despite the fact that other people had perfect signal with the same provider! Eventually I sussed the problem. My phone works on 900,1800 and 1900 frequencies. In the UK we use 900 and 1800. But the country where I went uses 1900 in cities and 850 in rural areas. So I had to buy a local mobile phone which cost around $35,000. You need a phone that works on all the frequencies you may need where you are going, as I have now realised. |
