I am one of those keys users that have stopped betting on UK horse racing, Which has been given as one of the key reasons why the Betfair share price has collapsed. The good news is I can now tell the Betfair board of directors what they can do about it to save their jobs. And what's more I am not going to charge them anything like the £16 million they paid to banks and other advisers earlier this year.
From 2005-2010 I used Betfair exclusively to earn a living, using UK horse racing as my sole product, my bets results came from Jump racing so from 2006 I focused on this side of the industry. The reasons I went from an everyday contributor to betfair racing turnover to no interest are:
Being unable to rely on meetings going ahead, from summer races being bizarrely washed out to the colder winters decimating the mid winter mid week fixtures. Is just no good to accept this situation, investment has to be made to improve the racing surface, covers are a start but with £17 million you could build a roof for Sandown!
So after investment racing can go ahead, the next problem is the tv coverage, again it is pointless saying racing has two channels and plenty of coverage, to use betfair racing full time you need good coverage. RUK are ideal the problem is ATR, they put on adverts on when you are trying to watch the horses at the start, they give prominence to Irish racing over UK racing leading to missed action and split screens. During a split screen turnover drops because you can't see what's going on to the level you want. Massive delay on atr!! Enough to drive me mad.
The next reason has to be cheating by major and minor owners, trainers and jockeys. Despite everything this cheating is just getting more widespread.
If betfair would invest in solving these problems I would be back.

How much have *you* invested in solving these problems? If nothing, then stop complaining about them.

Ah poor old mr magoo short sighted as ever, the point being i have fixed all my betting problems by moving to another area of investment, leaving racing and betfair counting the cost. So just **** off from my fred you gormless ****.

Actually very true; several major businesses do invest in facilities, etc, in order to create more revenue.
On television: betfair are focusing on internet television right now. In the long run, it is the way to go. I personally do not subscribe to ATR, etc, yet I play in-running and the horses. On one level, simply giving a proper feed without all the glitz and glamor in presentation would be enough. The signals for digital seem to be getting slower. I'm wondering if it is coming down to the technical issue of the compression of the signal being sent since the up/down to satellites then transmission seemed faster before.
Cheating: will always be there. The transparency of information is getting more and more vigilant. Perhaps a web-site called wikibets.org would do the trick [;)]

Where is it stated that horse-racing turnover is one of the key reasons?
In my opinion,betfair has reached its limit on gaining more punters.The premium charge has seen a lot of big punters go elsewhere,as has their greed and arrogance to the customer base in general.
