Loss of Programme

Do you have MS Office on that PC ? 
If so then you should be able to find out if its the program or the database which is causing the error if you try to connect to the database using MS Access or Excel and it works or fails.

You say the vendor sent you another version... of the program or the database ? ( or both ? )

No I do not have MS Office although I can pull up the activation page for a 60 day trial.  As yet not tried.

The programme seller has sent a message to download just the programme, new version. But still no luck in getting it to run athough an icon comes up on desktop.

Try and repair c\bridescor\briddata\bridge.mdb - Send a copy to someone who has got Access and ask them to do a "compress and repair" on it and send it back to you. replace c\bridescor\briddata\bridge.mdb with the repaired version. (backup the original first)

..... Or download the trial yourself - make sure you get the right version of office, some don't include Access.

I don't know how technically minded you are or how much effort you want to put in to a recovery attempt, But if this is very important then.....


To identify and fix computer errors is really just a process of elimination, in that if the source of the error is uncertain then one must eliminate as many possibility as one can to be left with just the single possibility.

In this case the initial possibilities are: a) the program, b) the database, or c) the connection between the two ( ODBC or SQLServer or the like )

As the program is reporting 'c\bridescor\briddata\bridge.mdb' is corrupted or is'nt a Microsoft Access database.
I would check this out first and see if any other program gives the same error when attatching to the database.

Ideally this would be done by having MS Access/Excel and open the database from one of these, if you don't have these then try installing Open Office(freeware) and accessing it from thier version of excell which they call scalc.

Or try clicking on c\bridescor\briddata\bridge.mdb and seeing what options windows gives you for opening the file.



If you have no technical knowhow at all then you'll have tough time of it and most of what I've said will be meaningless.

Escapee and Mr Krabs.  Many thanks for you interest, time and help with my programme.  I'm not a complete novice but the I.T. skills are seriously limited.   So, have called in the cavalry at £40 for the first hour, which I'm told should be enough time.  Will be able to spread the cost as the local Bridge Clubs rely on the results and I'll lean on them!!
