If, say, BetFred was to buy the Tote, would the 'big three' continue to support its products? Unlike the deductions going back into Racing I'm guessing the deductions will go straight into the owner's pockets. In which case why would the others continue to offer Tote betting - with the exception of perhaps the placepot and scoop6 for customer retention - when it would boost their opponent's profits? The bookmakers who offer Tote betting take commission out of the Tote transactions they process, as I understand it (?), but they may feel new certain new circumstances will outweigh the commission they receive?

Could a complete pull-out of the majors make it a loss-maker for the buyer, and therefore signal the end of it altogether?

Any views (if only to point out that I'm a fool)?
