what made you choose "Ubuntu" instead of all the other??
i once just wanted to make a test of a Unix based system but just to figure out which of all the linux distributions to go for is mind-boggling

I think the ubuntu one is one of the more user friendly versions, Lusitano71.
I tried it for a while and took a bit of getting used to all the permissions stuff after using windows that lets you amend whatever you want. Like ÖÐÎÄÂÛ̳I found it stable and fast only problem was most the software I use is windows based so it was too much hassle having to dual boot to use my betting stuff.

yes i guess its only effective if you have it in on one computer and leave another computer with the windows based one but using them both at the same time

Sure Linux is bit secure out of box, but Linux desktop is all together different thing. It is just matter of time, once Linux got popular crackers will target Linux desktop too (think of all those netbooks loaded with Linux). Right now there is not much protections for normal user account and users who will foolishly click on something in an email with attachments. However, SELinux or AppArmor may be used to protect the system.

The Open office software is compatible with MS office, and for what I use Word and Excel for is fine
I read that Linux Desktop market share is about 1% and given all of the different varieties, I wouldn't think that it would be viable for virus creators to start developing programs any time soon
