football accumulator help

I was wondering if anyone could pass on their thoughts about the following scenario.

Three guys at my work put on a football accumulator every weekend, where each person puts up £5 and then chooses 2/3 results.

Last weekend they had just over £850 going on to the final selection of a draw in the Newcastle v Stoke game.

Needless to say, they were gutted with the OG in final minutes as I think they were already working out how they would spend their £3000 winnings.

Going into that last game, what would you have done had you been in that position, bearing in mind that we are not talking about guys who have access to large amounts of money for laying off.

Best odds were Newcastle Evens Draw 5/2 Stoke 3/1

Just in case this situation arises again, any comment/advice I could give them would be appreciated.
