What sport are you talking about?

If you're talking about the Bundesliga, then this would have been a profitable strategy for at least the past four seasons.

Agreed - that's why laying odds-on favourites is profitable in certain leagues.

Report Shanelee1966 September 14, 2010 8:34 AM BST
I tried this in 2004 on racing and lost over a 6 month period.
I remember thinking well it can`t be that difficult to make a
profit, but it was.

Really  ???

1000 people ech put £1000 on the world cup final 1 week before the event.
Assuming the bookies price up @ no Over/under run. Can they make a profit ??

A-  YES    1000 x £1000  is   £1m.

Put the miss in a saving bank for the week and keep the interest.
Thats huge profits @ no risk.

The more punters the better.

staking plans Cool
Report cpfc4me October 12, 2010 4:17 AM BST
Staking plans can only increase profits from a winning system. They can't turn a losing system into a winning one.
Report TheSnapper October 12, 2010 8:14 AM BST
You would lose about 4-5% of whatever you bet in the long term.
Report TheSnapper October 12, 2010 8:15 AM BST
that's for UK horses only...

you can only win laying all the odds on horses by laying them at under the s.p
Report SHAPESHIFTER October 12, 2010 12:04 PM BST
The more I look at the odds, the more I see the value in laying, especially with football.  A more experienced gambler that I share e-mails with gave me some basis to work with.  After several months of reading up, small stakes, etc, it is not a matter of laying ALL odds on but researching the bets to see how they got to that form and if their opponents will, in the case of football, atleast land a draw.

Also, if you are looking odds on, sometimes the market to look in is HT/FT.  You'll often find teams at 4/5 that have needed the full 90 minutes to grab the points (HT/FT is also value if a team has been playing strong but has had some key injuries leading up to the match making the first half a matter of getting their "new team" sorted).

And odds on when a team is travelling, plenty of value.  A list of matches where substantial money was down

There is no reason why favourites at odds on should be
any more profitable laying than any other favourite.
Everything should be judged on its merit IMO. There is
one exception though, that is in Div1 and Div2 away
from home, not many of them but worth waiting for.
Report Seeeebooo!! October 12, 2010 1:45 PM BST
Last 5 weeks , Their has been around 70 horses with an sp between
1.5--2s , 37 won & Laying each for £2 level stakes would have
shown £1.65 profit after 5% commission

Although only a small sample , The horsey markets are pretty efficient , I would think you'd end up level minus commission
long term [:p]

...so why are you posting certain results ?
Report SHAPESHIFTER October 12, 2010 10:30 PM BST
I put up some examples of odds on bets that were turned back to August.  I mentioned that HT/FT often puts up value and there was an example tonight involving a traveling team.

Just pointing out that if you look around and do the research, the lays are there.
