Many here believe it is IMPOSIBLE to make 10% of your bank a week consistantly.  i say its bullchit and i know its bullchit because i doubled my bank every month (which is 25% a week) and turned £50 into £25,000 in 9 months.

starting bank of £100 the aim is to make 10% of the bank per week.

so this week i need to make £10 which is an avge of £1.43 per day.

Livebetter (and plenty agree with him) said in another thread 10% a week is IMPOSSIBLE over the long run.

I dont see how people find it a problem either.  i could double anyones money in 28 days (4 weeks) so 10% a week is childsplay.

amuses me to think people actually think a small amount like 10% a week is IMPOSSIBLE

10% of £100 is just £1.47 a day and could do it blindfolded

i-only-lay, please answer why we don't all do this (below) if it is so easy? [from the other Kid thread]. Cunningplan, feel free too.

10% a day is "simple"??

A simple £100 start bank at a simple 10% a day for simply 365 days returns a simple £11,666,414,366,485,000.00

I assume you are simply the richest man the world has ever seen?

Ok, so you couldn't get matched...?

But of course you can get matched up to £30k easy on footy matches and horse racing. So I assume you have started with £100 and done a simple 10% a day for simply 86 days to get £30k.

Then you took your £30k and stopped compounding, and just settled for 10% of the £30k each day to give you just under £1.1 million for the year (before commission of course), didn't you?

Didn't you? Because if you didn't you are a little silly to not have made millions aren't you?
Report i-only-lay August 30, 2010 5:39 PM BST

Hi I Only Lay. Please do not take this the wrong way as it is a comment not a knock.
Why have you started at least 30 different types of laying threads and quit everyone as soon as you have gone into negative territory. I think you have some good ideas and if you are to be believed you obviously make things pay. But what is the point of starting these threads just to let them fade away. I just do not get it. ????
Report Wedged August 30, 2010 6:27 PM BST
The trouble is, it isn't simple or easy.  Of course, it is possible, just not very likely in my opinion.

You are staking £20 (1/5 of your bank).  An early goal goes in and the trade is in trouble.  Plenty of early goals go in, sometimes goal rushes come, sometimes no goals come.  Often against what all stats/knowledge/run of play suggests.  It's a bit of a lottery in that sense.

So you say to change the bet when you need to.  But you then have to use a similarly large part of your bank, if not more.  Then the score stays the same, or the goals keep coming.  Money is all over the place.

Worst case you lose 2/5 of bank or more.  You might get away with just losing the £20. You might somehow make money, but sooner or later you are going to lose one.

Say you lose the £20 you have staked - when you are winning £1.30 (before commission) a time, that is 15 days of bets undone!

It is hard work. Not "simple".

Like dennis, I am not having a go, just playing devil's advocate.  And a small warning to all the "fuccking clues" types on here, as you put it Happy, that it won't be simple for them.

Hello freddie, Just come in from the gardening. Won't be doing anything today as am off out again soon.

I have 3 banks, where I have a target for 2 of them per day.  Two of them are lay only bank, the days target is broken down into 4 parts and I try to make that in 4 bets (continuing if not).  Once banked, I complete the next lay bank target.  All compounded.

I then move on to the 3rd bank where I then make my wages.  This is a mix of backing, laying, but mainly trading.  I only do the horses.  This bank is the one that I withdraw from.

I occasionally play the footy on the Prem, but that is only fun and I don't have as good results there.

I'm no horse expert, it's just that my methods and systems suit the faster pace of the horses markets.

i must agree if your making a mint..its very unlikely you feel the need to share !
i agree with wedge entirely about betting large % of bank on single bet ..sure way to empty bank !

having said all of that , i think its very possible to increase your bank 10% per week !
personally i never bet more than 5% of my bank on a bet ,
always happy to trade out for 10% profit,
which normally means for me a need 10 bets a week to match that target

if you are winning its always tempting to bet bigger ,
the amount of times i have won say 8 times or so small ,
to be wiped out by one short price cert..lol..lumping on ,
if you avoid big losses , lots of small gains ...
soon builds up ..and you are learning as you go ,

Report gibmark September 19, 2010 6:47 PM BST
i look at it like graph ...
take the stock market ....you may exspect your stocks to go up long term ,
but being realistic ..nobody would exspect it to go up and up everyday !
it will go up and down ,,lets hope there are more ups than downs ,
limit the size of the down by a max limit bet too ,
sometimes i chase and double up at a much better price..hoping to trade out at a profit if they draw level , ...cant do that in shops !..but mostly i m happy if im in profit...and trade out ,
you will find your own way , ...but if you only want to pick winners ..it will be very tough ,
i would say almost impossible to do well long term , ,
if you are just staring off ..you are bound to make mistakes ..so let them be little ones ..many its not aprob ..learn a way best for you to profit ,
if you spent a day reading all the threads here on general betting ..you will pick some ideas up

profit is possible on betfair.  But it comes down to the individual to not deviate from what they know in order to make a continuous profit.  In this day and age of 'click and bet', it is easy to stray from what you know.

In the past 30 days, any losses I had were:
a) due to a mistake
b) bending my own 'rules of engagement'
c) not doing the research or taking on a sport where my strike-rate is weak.
d) pushing the stake (no, not chasing.  Just pushing the risk).

Examples:
a) My spreadsheet reading the horses had a different order to that on the platform.  I laid the wrong horse in-running.

b) Last week at evening racing at Kempton, I laid a horse in a race that historically I had a return of -40% ROI over a long period.  As well, the type of horses were rated from naught so was a donkey race.  Horse won at 4/1.

c) I took on U.S. Racing the past month because of my schedule.  Was doing okay with small stakes then got lazy and played a race without digging as deep as I normally do.  This was combined with (d) when I was trading to reduce the risk only to get caught out on momentum and rather than red out, I 'let it ride'.

Prior to that and since that (including three days off to chill), I made a steady profit through proper research and playing two (repeat two) markets only:  UK HORSES and NHL HOCKEY.

I did not win every bet but made a steady profit through backs, lays, trading and trading to reduce risk.

With 3 meetings a day, I don't need to play every race.  I usually choose the two tracks I have a better strike rates at then will 'glance' at the third track if there is a type of race that I usually do well at.

There is always another horse race so no harm in skipping one or two.  Enjoy the cup of tea away from the screen.  It will clear your brain.

With a PC in front of us, we have more information than most to make decisions.  Yet we'll 'cut corners'.  Any losing plays I had in the past 30 days were because of that.

The vision is clear if you want it to be.

Good luck to all in 2011.

Dosen't matter how good your system is if you lose it all because the site goes down and you can't lay it off.

funlovingexpress, I have been caught out on the site crashing as well.  I, fortunately, have not lost my whole bank.

But I do monitor the site carefully now.  The tell-tale sign are sometimes there and best just to take the day off rather than fight the stream.  And that goes for if your broadband supplier is having a rough day (sometimes simply turning off your router for ten minutes can reassign your access to the net).

As well, if you are exposing your whole bank, then that's a mindset you have to look at.  If you are going to take that route, make sure you have the funding to cover yourself through a bookie (since laying off simply means placing bets on other outcomes).

This wasn't to defend betfair but the fact remains that technology on all levels, simple or complex, is not flawless and contingencies have to be there.
