Check your firewall and proxy settings. It's 99% probable one of these is the cause.

your probably right there

not really clued up on this side of things, how do i go about checking them? thanks

Proxy settings: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/135982. Most users don't need to go through a proxy so if you see a server entered here then try gruss with this disabled.

Firewall: You should read the help file for your firewall software (Norton, Zone Alarm etc.) You need to read the section on "Exceptions". It should explain how to allow a specific program through the firewall. You need to allow "Betting Assistant.exe" and "BA_Launcher.exe". I cannot give you specific instructions because all firewall software are different.

i turned off my mcafee firewall and its working fine now but it says i'm at risk now.

is that dodgy ?

Yes, it is very dodgy. Somewhere in the Mcafee help file it will explain how to allow a specific program through the firewall. I absolutely do not recommend you have no firewall. At least this confirms it is the firewall.

every time i switch it back on (the mcafee firewall) it freezes my gruss

how do i let the firewall run without freezing gruss, where to i go what do i click on etc?

all done LIYM, thanks for your help

It will continue to do so until you go into the exception settings and allow the two programs I mentioned earlier through the firewall. I don't know what else I can tell you apart from you could try putting "mcafee firewall exceptions" into google.
