General Betting

I will start off this thread stating that i am a sceptic of laying as a way to make money. However, after reading the Maria thread & having developed multiple systems to test the possibilities of laying to make profit I tested them for all types of staking systems.
In every scenario the "Maria" style plan worked the best.
So, despite my big doubts I have set a bank aside & will lay as follows:-
Any odds up to 4.9 on betfair - stake 0.8% of max bank ( using ratcheted staking)
Any odds 5-11.8 - 0.55% of max
12 - 21 ( max odds taken) 0.35 % of max bank.
I will recalculate the bank after each day.
I don't have much time during racing & will only put up lays approx an hour before racing & an hour before evening races.
I will lay on approx 80% of days
If a price isn't taken then I'll just let it go.
I will try to post the selections before the races but often it will be mid racing as there are an average of 20 lays a day.
I know there will be shouts of aftertiming but i will use my account purely for this so won't be hard to "post my bets"
No real expectations, just a good way of logging my progress as i go along
I will post the opening bank & early selections in next post

Results so far are 14 bets & 12 winners - a couple of shorties beaten as well. Up approx 4% on bank & will post tonights lays once I've put them on the markets

Day 1 - 30 bets, 26 winners. Profit of £143.98
4 losers on the day but Damika the most expensive. Bank now £3,943.98 Stakes are now £31.55, £21.69, £13.80 Got quite a few short odds beaten but its the days when a 16/1 shot comes in that hurts I have a very optimistic aim of 30% gain a month but 3.8% gain is a good start. |

Sorry , presumed no-one was interested!!!
To be honest I've stopped doing it( both laying & recording it here) as it takes far too long & is a really dull way of punting. i had started with £3,000 a few months back & only started the posting to keep me interested. However, it just added to the tedium! A small profit was taken but it did show me that it is possible to win by laying, but I traditionally back at fairly big odds & winning on a 1/16 shot isn't worth the admin & effort. In a a sense its hardened my own viewpoints that backing horses is not only the most profitable course of action but crucially the most enjoyable. |
