I tried to cancel a Back bet during the Parana v Santo Andre game the other night whilst the market was suspended due to data feed failure via my bets but it would not allow me to do it! I telephoned them and they told me the market would re-open at half time and all bets would be cancelled.

I had put the bet in before the kick-off and selcected keep but i could not cancel it once the market suspended. The bet subsequently got snapped up at half time at 3.5 when the price was around 13-16!

Betfair have told me that i could have canceled the bet? Anyone here who knows anything? Are they taking me for a mug!

I regularly cancel bets during a suspend, so yes, it does work.

eg, red card market when they suspend after a bad foul/melee, then  reopen without cancelling unmatched. you can hit the cancel button in the interim.

which isn't to say it was necessarily working in your situation, of course.

If Betfair told you it would be cancelled, you should ask for a refund.

From the last Forum Q and A:

"james from the north

why cant i cancel keep bets when the race has finished and its suspended ?
i can cancel keep bets in running why not when you suspens the race

the following message appears
Bets on Starting Price markets cannot be cancelled until the Starting Price has been determined.

yet the starting price has been determined

its a nuisance as when there is a foto finish and its obvious whats won the lay bets cant be cancelled until you reopen the market for the foto and people with the fastest api connection clean up i have lost a few quids because of this

looking forward to your reply

james

Thanks for raising this; we are looking into at the moment."

I have raised the same point with Gruss. Often in horse-racing, it is pretty obvious that there will be a photo-finish. When I try to cancel all my 'lay the field' bets, I generally get the same message as James above.
Of course, the market re-opens and what a surprise, before I cancel my bets, they have been hoovered up. Very annoying.

The quote I have given is from the 'Forum chat' section.
Please take it up with them.
Gruss tell me they can not do anything. It is up to Betfair to correct.
